How Can I Make Close Friends As An Introverted College Student Living In The City?

*I’m also female by the way
I didn’t make any friends in my dorm freshman year. I think this is because most of these women were dumb, party-animal, airhead types. We were nice to each other and all, but I really don’t think anyone could have forced us to be friends. Now, this doesn’t mean I don’t ever party, but I’m by no means the stereotype of a female college student.
I’m a junior next fall, and I have made some friends, including two close friends, but I really don’t feel any stability with my social life. In other words, I don’t feel like I have a “core” or “base” that keeps me feeling socially secure. I truly feel like I’m on my own and have to fend for myself. In some ways this is great because I’m an introvert and so I can have my “space”. Yet, when I want that social closeness (either from a friendship or relationship) I don’t have it… What I really want and feel I’m missing in my life is a sense of social stability/security… I haven’t found a social niche, really. There is one group I’m friends with (and can say I’m part of for the most part), but it still isn’t providing that security in terms of my social life.
I guess I just don’t like that I have all these connections, but little solid or reliable social support and security. How do I change this? Meeting people at this school is a ridiculous challenge. With 55,000 undergrads, even people who have joined smaller clubs are fairly distant. The atmosphere around here makes it challenging to make close friends unless you were already from the area

I Don’t Know Where My Life Is Going? Advice?

I will admit that the problem I will list out here is a “first-world problem,” but hear me out please. Some advice would be really helpful.
I went to college, got my bachelors/masters (along with lots of loans that I’ve now started to pay off), and entered a good career field. I like my profession and the versatility and the fact that I can pick up and go almost anywhere with it. At the moment, I am living in the city where I went to college, but have no idea what I’m going to do for my future. I’m not sure if I want to stay here. I have zero family here, and many of the friends that I made in college moved away after graduation. I have a few friends left, or should I say, acquaintances that I sometimes hang out with. I will admit I keep an emotional distance from people and that that’s one of the reasons why I haven’t formed close friendships in this city. Basically, I have nothing really holding me here except my job and my comfort zone. After all, I’ve been here six years in total, and have a good network. But where do I go from here? As it stands, all I have going in my life is my career. My immediate family lives about 4 hours away and I visit sometimes but my step-dad and I do not get along, so I don’t visit as often as I would like. Sometiems, I just feel really alone. All my co-workers have some kind of “base” here – family, significant others, etc. If I had that, I would be more at peace and more stable. I’m at an age where I should be thinking about settling down (I’m 23), but how can I do that if I haven’t found my niche? I feel so alone sometimes. I’m not sure what to do.
Any thoughts on someone going through a “quarter-life crisis”? Not sure if that’s what I’m experiencing but I’m sure as hell at a roadblock right now with regard to where I want my life to go. Lack of family/boyfriend/close friends in my area also makes me more restless.

I’m Having A Social Life Crisis In College…how Do I Find My Place In This City?

I’m a sophomore in college (and female) and I’m going through what I suppose a lot of college students are (even though it doesn’t seem like it) where I’m trying to figure out where I belong in life. It’s sort of a confusion phase of figuring out your future, who you are, and what you want from life. I think last year as a freshman I was more lost than ever, but now I feel relatively more comfortable in my new home. I moved from a rural area to a (smaller/medium-sized) city, so it took some getting used to, and I still am getting used to it in some regards.
Despite this, I’m still not “settled” or exactly comfortable in my own shoes. I’m trying to figure out where I fit in (with respect to social groups in college); there’s obviously a life after college, too, so I would like to have some sense of security in terms of social friendships/relationships, because (correct me if I’m wrong) developing those connections is very difficult after college.
I feel intimidated because it seems like so many students have found their niche in life by the time they are my age (ie: a sophomore, approaching junior year) and are not looking for a group of friends. How can I ensure that I find my place in this city? I’m quite school/career focused and individualistic and so is everyone else…so sometimes I find it difficult to make those personal connections. Most people I know seem to be confident about their life and have a lot going for them. Whereas I just feel confused and hopeful for a good future. I guess it’s not that I’m not doing anything… I get mostly A’s, have a part time job, and a few good friends (2 or 3 close friends) but for some reason I still can’t find my niche where I feel comfortable with myself. Two of those three close friends also have a lot of friends, so I’m more of an “option”. I’m also single (and have been since I was 16) so having a relationship is something I’d like to happen in the next couple of years
Any general life advice? I just really don’t feel like I’ve found my niche or a close GROUP of friends that give me a sense of closeness, stability and support. I really don’t think I’m one of those weird people who can’t make friends–I’m totally like-able, but I feel unsettled like I’m lacking something in the social department
