Is Georgetown University Still A Catholic School?

I heard someone recently say “back when Georgetown was a Catholic School” and I didn’t know if they meant that it was no longer practicing all the church’s teachings but was still technically a Catholic School or if it literally was no longer affiliated with the Catholic Church.

Knights Of Columbus Barred By Catholic University Because It Only Accepts Male Students?

Roman Catholic, Jesuit-affiliated Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington has refused to recognize the Knights of Columbus as an official student group because — wait for it — the Knights of Columbus is a Catholic organization.
Gonzaga administrators notified the students who had sought the school’s official seal of approval last month, reports The Cardinal Newman Society’s Catholic Education Daily.
“The Knights of Columbus, by their very nature, is a men’s organization in which only Catholics may participate via membership,” reads a letter written by Sue Weitz, vice president for student life. “These criteria are inconsistent with the policy and practice of student organization recognition at Gonzaga University.”
This is a stand that must be admired. Sexist discrimination must be outlawed. Do you agree?

Why Can’t People Pay For Their Own Birth Control?

It would sure save a lot of jobs.
Federal Judge Halts Obama Birth-Control Mandate for Domino’s Pizza Founder
Filed under Business, Health Care, Sanctity of Life Posted on December 31, 2012
A federal judge has ordered a temporary halt on the Obama administration’s birth-control coverage policy for Tom Monaghan, the Catholic billionaire who founded Domino’s Pizza.
Federal District Court Judge Lawrence P. Zatkoff issued the decision Sunday, less than two days before the policy would have taken effect and exposed Monaghan to fines for non-compliance.
“Plaintiff has shown that abiding by the mandate will substantially burden his exercise of religion,” Zatkoff wrote.
“The government has failed to satisfy its burden of showing that its actions were narrowly tailored to serve a compelling interest. … This factor weighs in favor of granting Plaintiffs’ motion.”
Monaghan recently filed suit against the policy, which requires most employers to cover a range of birth-control methods in their health plans. Churches and houses of worship are exempt, and employees of religiously affiliated institutions such as Catholic schools will be able to obtain birth control directly from their insurance company, also without a co-pay.

Is This A Good Example Of How Corrupt The Vatican And Catholic Church Is?

“”Charles Francis Flynn – known in his neighborhood as simply, Charlie, is a 20th century American criminal. Charles was born in May of 1946 in Brooklyn, New York. A 6’3” man with a slim build, wavy slicked back dark brown hair and light green Irish eyes. He was first arrested at the age of 17 in 1963 for a drug arrest and continued his downward spiral from there. Flynn started working with a uncle on the west side of Manhattan and was drafted by the US Army at the age of 21 in the summer of 1967, Flynn was not pleased and considered himself “too good for the military”, Flynn, however received little pity from the Army. Flynn was sent to Vietnam by September of that same year and fought in combat during the 1968 Tet Offensive. Flynn was honorably discharged in 1969, despite superiors noting Flynn as “holding a deep disdain for authority figures”. After returning to civilian life, Flynn’s drug use became a severe issue. Flynn lived with his parents for several years and around 1977, his father found him a job with a small steel company that had it’s main office in the World Trade Center, Flynn excelled as a commodities trader. Flynn became part of the Wall Street culture “sticking with your own”, Flynn was loosely affiliated with all Irish Catholic traders, stock brokers, bankers, CEO’s, accountant and lawyers, known as the “White Collar Irish mob”. He has been described as not “incredibly intelligent but used his good looks, deceit, manipulative skills and street smarts to quickly advance in his new career” In 1982 Flynn was arrested for insider trading and served 5 months in federal prison, upon release Flynn realized he had lost his job, this greatly angered Flynn.
In 1984, at age 38, Flynn moved back in with his parents and younger sister. It was around this time Flynn created started a new firm, while the SEC was investigating him. Flynn eventually agreed to pay a fine in addition to being barred from trading by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1988, Flynn used several aliases, including Mark Rose.
In an attempt to use the Roman Catholic Church to discourage questions of legitimacy, Flynn founded the St. Francis of Assisi Foundation in the largely impoverished and African descent nations of the predominantly Catholic Haiti and the American Virgin Island’s, with a nominal mission of investing in insurance companies in order to fund hospitals. Among people solicited to join the Foundation board was retired CBS Evening News anchorman Walter Cronkite; when he declined to join, his name was used anyway. An official of the Roman Curia, Monsignor Emilio Colavanni, agreed to sign a letter falsely stating that the Foundation received funding from the Vatican in exchange for several million dollars for his personal use and a twenty million dollar donation to the Catholic church. Colavanni was extradited from Vatican City in November 1997, where photos of the then 65 year old being led shackled and handcuffed by well armed CIA agents went viral. Colavanni served a six year sentence in a cushy Maryland federal prison known as “Club Fed”, from September 1998 – October 2004. As of 2012 he is 78 years old and living in Italy. Colavanni gave agents critical information in exchange for a drastically reduced sentence, Washington federal prosecutors indicted Colavanni in late 1997 and planned to “throw the book at Colavanni, an important and trusted man holding one of the most high profile positions in the world.
By November 1993, Flynn’s illegal antics had caught up with him and he was under serious investigation by the FBI for defrauding the government, tax fraud, wire fraud and various other crimes. Around this time, Flynn’s long-time and devout Catholic girlfriend Cara Kelly threatened to turn him in, due to using the churches name in vain, after Flynn attempted to persuade her and she refused, Flynn brutally stabbed her at least thirty times and set his Connecticut compound on fire with her in it, attempting to destroy any paper trail.
Thanks to Colavanni Flynn was immediately apprehended fleeing Ireland for Canada. He refused to speak with government agents during interrogation. Flynn was likely to face a life sentence, the only debate was to hold him in federal or state prison. During Flynn’s arraignment, he appeared before the federal judge verbally abuse, calling the agents and judges everything from a “fat bald f***” to a “homo”. In late 1999, Flynn was found guilty on all charges. As of 2012, Flynn, now 65 years old, is currently serving a life sentence in Colorado Super-max prison in Florence.””

Getting Married To A Catholic But I’m Not Religious.?

My girlfriend is Roman-Catholic, and recently we were talking about getting married. I do not practice any religion, and do not want to affiliate with any religion. She told me that I absolutely have to get confirmed to get married to her (since she wants it to be in a Catholic church). But I do not want to be confirmed. I am not prepared nor have the interest in giving that commitment to the church. We both have strong feelings about our sides. She also told me that just because I get confirmed doesn’t mean that I have to go to church or give that commitment. So I asked what is the point of doing it in the first place? She is confirmed, but does not go to church or really practice. She also said that getting married outside of a Catholic church would “disown me from my family”. I have no problem getting married in a church…
Is it possible for us to get married, still in a Catholic church, without me being confirmed?
Any advice/help is appreciated… just please don’t preach to me, nothing is going to change mine or my girlfriends mind on our feelings of religion.

Atheists, Would You Go To A Catholic College If You Received An Impressive Scholarship?

The college is private and is affiliated with Catholicism. It is rather liberal in regards to religion and does not require students to be religious. Teaches evolution, rejects literal creationism, and is a well-respected institution.
