It is clear that initially the relationship betwixt the two nations was fairly stable; however, this stability quickly began to falter as Americans carved out their own niches throughout the vast territory that would ultimately be referred to as the United States of America.
Many of these divergences were political, although many were cultural and economic. Americans asserted their dominance in these three areas, notably through the slave trade, relationships with Native Americans, and the growing sense of frustration with British control. Analyze these paradigm shifts, examining the ways in which the North American newcomers adapted or changed to the land and developed their own national ideology.
