You usually don’t just place a link but you place banner which includes your affiliate link.
Is your site a static site or a blog. If it’s a static site you can place the link where it makes most sense in the overall design of the site. If it’s a blog, The side bar/s are the usual position. However, you could use a 468wide banner as a sticky post.

    Scott,
You’ve got a few different ways of inserting a link from your blog/website over to whatever affiliate product you’re promoting.
    Option #1: Banner Ad
Assuming you know how to insert a banner ad, you would link that picture or animated image (GIF) to your affiliate link. Thus, when someone clicks on that banner ad, they’re then taken to the sales page of whatever affiliate product/service you’re promoting.
    Option #2: Anchor Text Link
The way this works is somewhere in your blog/website, you find a particular string of text, highlight it and then link/insert your affiliate link.
If you need help with being able to insert anchor text onto your blog/website, head over to Youtube and simply search for “insert anchor text” and click on the 4th video from the top…why this one? Because it’s the shortest video (2 minutes and 34 seconds long) and gets to the point quickly!
Hope that gets you pointed in the right direction!
Good luck in your affiliate marketing business!
