XHTML is supported for most new mobiles nowadays, but to support older handsets the website should be written to support WML (Wireless Markup Language) [1].
You can add AdSense to your WML (or HTML) mobile sites by following this guide:
‘Login to your account –> Adsense setup –> click AdSense for Mobile –> Choose format whether single or double –> Choose markup language [wml (WAP 1.x.); xhtml (WAP 2.0);
chtml (imode, etc.)] –> Choose character encoding and colors –> Choose channels –> and then get your code’ [2]
