Is This A Fair Thing For Him To Have Said?

I was talking to one of my friends about my self harm scars and how I’m really nervous about them being on show in summer, and all he said was things like ‘that’s your fault’. Is that fair, or is he being a dick about it?

It wasn’t particularly nice, but it’s not like he can take it back. There’s a serious stigma around self harm and mental illness. I think your friend’s response is pretty indicative of that attitude, as well as a lot of ignorance on his part. In the future, it would be wise to discuss your self harm concerns only with people you know that you can trust. This guy clearly just doesn’t get it. If you don’t have anyone to talk to, there are tons of online forums where you can talk about this kind of thing. Personally, I recommend the Post Secret Community (postsecret.com) which has an excellent mental health forum. Anything affiliates with To Write Love On Her Arms is also usually pretty helpful.

Honestly, i think its rude of him. ofcourse you know it was your fault its not like a fairy flew in and did it for you.
On the other hand people who dont understand why people do it or they think the subject is taboo will react like that just so they dont have to talk about it.
I have scars on my thighs and they do fade alot more after time.
Try a little bio oil daily to help hide them. 🙂
