If you are looking for purely noise cancellation, and your budget is $300, it’s no secret the Bose QC-15’s are the best (most effective) noise cancelling headphone on the market (they cost $300 exactly).
However, as you would expect with Bose headphones, the sound quality is nowhere near where it should be for $300 and while the production quality isn’t BAD, it certainly isn’t great either.
You see how you are in a bit of a bind here; any $300 non-Bose headphone is lacking a bit in the noise cancellation department, but may have better sound quality than the Bose which has superior noise cancellation technology but relatively poor sound quality.
So, here’s what I would reccomend.
The Audio Technica ANC7B Headphones feature the same active noise cancelling the ANC9’s do, without the 3 “modes of noise cancellation” which really doesn’t come in handy personally. The ANC7B’s are only $140 (posted a link below). The active noise cancellation feature works quite well, and the ANC7B’s have the best battery life of any noise cancelling headphone I’ve ever researched/owned. As you would expect with Audio Technica products of course, the sound quality is quite good and has nice, tight bass that would be great for rap/hip hop.http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH…
    Hope this helps.
