Ideal niche vs. realized niche
fundamental niche = abiotic factors
realized niche = abiotic and biotic factors
realized niche is a restricted niche. It incorporates other animals, the competition. Indirect top-down, bottom-up and direct top-down, bottom-up competition processes. Fundamental niche is where the animal COULD live… if everything were to go perfectly with no outside competition, resource limitation, etc.
The realized niche “realizes” the affects of the RL and takes competition and resource limitation and so on into consideration.
