How Does Liberal Stephen Harper Expect To Win The Next Election Without The Support From Conservatives?

It is no secret that Harper has basically given the finger to every true conservative in this country.
Why?
1. The size of government and the house of commons has increased.
2. He won’t push to defund the CBC.
3. He has and continues to silence pro life mps in his own party. And pretty much any REAL conservative that speaks up with an opposing viewpoint to him.
4. Government spending is up.
5. He won’t allow FREE market by allowing foreign companies to add more competition in the telecommunication sector.
6. He is funding international planned parenthood!
7. He broke his balanced budget promise.
8. He used tax dollars for the useless Libya mission.
This just to name a few. With such an anti conservative agenda, how does he expect to get any votes in the next election!? He has smeared this party and I hope he goes down as one of the biggest failures in Canadian politics!!

Well, despite the cowboy hat he is from Toronto. Can a leopard change its spots?

    1) The west and Ontario MP’s were under represented per population in the house of commons compared to Quebec. To reduce the number of quebec MP’s would cause an uproar in quebec. The only possible course to even out the numbers was to increase the MP’s in other provinces something BC has been calling for.
    2) you may like to see funds not going to CBC but not all Canadians feel the same. CBC is Canada’s public radio and TV and many count on it for news from home when they are away.In the scheme of money from the government it is small potatoes.
    3) pro life is an issue that Harper said from the time of the election that he would not revisit during his mandate. That 1 Conservative MP brought it up broke with his leaders promise. To most Canadians it is a dead issue that has been settled. It is only the pro lifers that beat the drum.I’ve seen many polls about what are the most important issues to Canadians. Jobs, the Economy and health care head the list. I don’t think abortion even makes the list.
4 &7) It was not too long ago that the Liberals and NDP were calling for the government to spend on a Stimulus package and now they are blaming government spending on Harper. Where did they think that money was going to come from. You can’t balance a budget when you are giving out billions of dollars. If you had even kept track you would see that the Conservatives have started to pay down that deficit.
    5) Not allowing foreign companies into the telecom sector protects our own telecom Companies and how is that wrong
    6) So many dollars of spending goes to third world countries to help them. Planned parenting is only 1 thing that that money is spent on. Many of these people don’t have the knowledge that most teens have in our country. That is why sexual diseases are prevalent and people have more kids than they can afford to feed. Planned parenthood gives the women an understanding of how their bodies work and how they can avoid pregnancy. It also includes teaching hygene and nutrition. In my opinion this is all good and I don’t see your objection to it
    8) The Libya mission was UN mission and Canada being a member of the UN participated in it like many other countries.
I’m sorry if these are your complaints about Harper they are pretty weak. Unless the Liberals and NDP get good leaders the Conservatives will be elected again and again. All the Candidates for both Liberals and NDP that I’ve seen put forth as leaders don’t impress me in the least and I’m possitive I’m not alone in thinking this
As for Harper smearing his party again you are dreaming. Harper has been a good PM and certainly not a failure

    True conservative? Real conservative?
Apparently you’ve confused what side of the border this is.
Because if you’re not a Red Tory, you’re NOT a real Canadian Conservative.
Historically and traditionally, that’s what mainstream Canadian conservatism actually is:
“In Canada, the phenomenon of “red toryism” has fundamentally, if not exclusively, been found in provincial and federal Conservative political parties. It is a definable historical legacy that marks differences in the creation, development, and evolution of the political cultures of Canada and the United States. Canadian conservatism and American conservatism are different from each other in important ways.”

So no offence but if you don’t know what actual, proper Canadian conservatism is, you shouldn’t be complaining about it.

Steve is not a Liberal he is a conservative. how sad. Please get the facts before a discussion.

True, he’s not as conservative as his base would like but he’s not gonna get elected on his base alone. Especially a majority.
Speaking of majority, he’s only had his majority for the past 9 months. Don’t you remember he had that minority gov’t where he had to placate those 3 left wing parties?
Where are the conservative true believers gonna go? The Liberals? HA! They’ve moved too far to the left.
They’ll stay put and vote for Harper and keep harping (pun intended) at the prime minster to remind him of his political roots.
I think Harper has been largely successful in pushing the “Alberta Agenda” and he still has a few more years left in his mandate.
But this is Canada. Its a varied country with people have different ideas about how to govern. Its not like Harper got more than 50% of the vote.
So, some of things you say he did or didn’t do in your list wouldn’t go down to well with many Canadians.
Personally, I think the H of C should reflect the population of Canada. Ontario, BC & Alberta all have experienced increase in numbers, why not more representation? That might play well for the Tories in the next election.
I don’t think the Libya mission was useless. It rid the world of that meddlesome & brutal dictator. It showed Canada could be counted on by her long time allies once again.
True, gov’t spending had increased. I blame that on their previous minority status & the big economic turndown from a few years ago. But overall, they’re managing fairly well. You might see much more fiscal restraint with the next budget because it’ll be their first one with a majority.
I like that Tax Free Savings Account they brought in! You won’t see the other parties ever offering that. They punish people who save & invest. They’ll probably scrap it or tax it when their turn to govern comes around.
I like the immigration reform. They’re serious about border security and removal of those people with serious criminality & with war crimes background. The previous Liberals & Mulroney Tories just ignored those problems.
True, more competition in the free mark in the telecommunication sector might be a good thing.
We’ll see in the long term, won’t we?
