Yes. I’m not “for” abortions any more than I’m “for” amputations. Both are unfortunate, but it would be a monstrous crime to outlaw either.
    No.
    Maybe.

    Mostly good.
Do you believe abortion is non-hazardous to society? Why are you for abortion?
Yes, and I believe abortion can be beneficial to a community. I am pro-choice for the reasons I list in my answer here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;…

  4. Katy says:

I’m not an atheist but I wanted to answer the “do you think we are born good” from an objective perspective, I say absolutely…infants and toddlers show compassion and empathy and sympathy before they have the congnitive ability to be taught abstract concepts like that. For instance, i fell asleep on the couch the other day and when I woke my 19 month old had put a blanket on me…to keep me warm and comfy I would guess 🙂 , they also cry when others cry, and try to give comfort. It’s so amazing to me

  5. Smash it up Darwin says:

Do you believe men and women only behave differently due to social constructs?
    No.
Do you believe that people are for the most part good, and society makes them evil? Or do you believe that people are for the most part evil but society makes them better?
People are neither good nor bad. Only genetics and environments can be good ro bad – people are just by-products of these things.

    2) No. They have a very different pysch.
    3) I had to answer this off a textbook from school. No, I don’t agree with Voltaire or whoever it was. But, I could partially believe to say childhood conditions shape people with more power than anything.
    4) I am against abortion. But I am also against this constant reproducing. Stop giving birth if you can’t parent children. And slow down altogether. If a child is conceived, let it life.
    5) No. Russia has a certain history.
    6) Non-political. Too young, I believe.

Well…er, the idea of the site is to ask one at a time, but anyways:
    >Do you believe in objective morality?
    Yes.
    >Do you believe men and women only behave differently due to social constructs?
Yes, but also due to biology and evolutionary psychology.
    >Do you believe that people are for the most part good, and society makes them evil? Or do you believe that people are for the most part evil but society makes them better?
    Neither
    >Do you believe abortion is non-hazardous to society? Why are you for abortion?
I’m not ‘for’ abortion, but I wouldn’t ban it either. Who am I to tell a woman what to do with her body and her offspring.
    >Do you believe that a female leader would not start a war?
Margaret Thatcher started the Falklands War
    >Do you believe selling sèx for money is the oldest trade?
It’s a romanticised notion. Probably not true.
    >Wich political party do you affiliate with?
    I’m an anarchist
    >Who was your fzvorite philosopher, which Philosopher do you agree with the most?
    Dr Seuss. Also Kierkegaard.
    >Also, is art important to the world?
    Minus the pretensions, yes.

1: No. Such a thing doesn’t exist, what you refer to is Ethics.
2: No, male and female brains are indeed set up differently.
3: There are naturally good and naturally bad people.
4: Why would it be hazardous? Because it’s the mother’s choice if she wants the child or not, not that of religious nut-tards.
    5 and 6: No.
    7: Not one for politics.
    8: Uh…I’ll pass.
9: Yes. Art is one of the things that sets us appart from most if not all other animals.

  10. Daniel says:

    1. No
    2. Yes, to an certain point
    3. Society dictates what is right and wrong so people are considered neither until they come together as a group and define morality. So it depends on the moral code you are comparing humanity to.
    4. Yes. Freedom of choice.
    5. No
    6. Since it is trading one thing for another, yes.

  11. Shoes Too A Wish within a Wish says:

    In order, my answers are:
    To a point.
Everyone behaves differently, not because of sex, but because of personality.
People are for the most part human.
Non-hazardous? More like beneficial. People who don’t want children, shouldn’t have them.
I believe she would probably try harder not to start one.
I can’t think of an older one.
    More democratic.
    I’m not sure.
Art is an important cultural feature, indicating a successful society. Art is one of the more important things a culture can leave behind.

    I don’t know.
    I don’t know.
    Labour
    Friedrich Nietzsche
    Important is subjective, so no.

  14. Butterfly Christie ƸӜƷ says:

    – It’s more complicated than that. How to be moral usually is objective, but why be moral is subjective.
    – Partly, it can be from genetics as well, since the brain influences all sorts of behaviors.
    – Some people are classified as evil just because they have a hard time figuring out what’s the right thing to do, and they end up doing the wrong thing a lot, though they initially mean to do good. This is most people that end up doing bad things. There are people born without empathy, and this has been scientifically studied, and it’s where the word psychopath originates. Their brain is unable to put themselves in another persons place, and think of the consequences to how they treat others.
    – We should have as little abortions as possible, but women should still have a right to choose because the mother is more sentient, and knows whether or not she’d be able to take care of the baby.
    – Cleopatra led a war, whether or not she started it is questionable. However I’d have to say women are less prone to start a war, because usually a guy will be into fighting. Looking at guys toys, they are all about fighting, when women’s toys are usually about romance. However there are guys out there who can be very diplomatic.
    – Probably, sex is natural. Though it was most likely anal, or other ways then conventional sex because back then they didn’t have ways to protect against STD’s back then, or avoid pregnancy.
    – It’s hard to trust any administrations right now, but I’m progressive, and liberal.
    – Bertrand Russel
    – Definitley, logic is a great finder of truth, however emotion brings quality to life, which is what humanity needs.

  15. Everard says:

“Atheists I have a couple of questions?”
    Have you done these before?
“Do you believe in objective morality?”
No – ALL morality is subjective.
Morality, like Truth and Beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder.
“Do you believe men and women only behave differently due to social constructs?”
    Nature-nurture.
“Do you believe that people are for the most part good, and society makes them evil? Or do you believe that people are for the most part evil but society makes them better?”
    Nature-nurture.
“Do you believe abortion is non-hazardous to society? Why are you for abortion?”
The law AND religion has no right over a woman’s vagina – stay out !
“Do you believe that a female leader would not start a war?”
Nonsense – the female is deadlier than the male.
“Do you believe selling sèx for money is the oldest trade?”
    1. The word is sex and it’s quite legal to use it.
    2. Dunno – don’t care…
    3. The law AND religion has no right over a woman’s vagina – stay out !
“Wich political party do you affiliate with?”
Left but that does not equate to communism as some USians are trained to believe 😉
“Who was your fzvorite philosopher, which Philosopher do you agree with the most?
    Bertrand Russell
“Also, is art important to the world?”
    It enhances civilisation.

  16. Robot Menace says:

“Do you believe in objective morality?”
I believe there are certain parts of human morality that are a an inevitable part of being human and probably a result of our genome I do not believe in a true objective morality that applies to everything. If there was objective morality the same acts that would be immoral for people would be immoral for cats and dogs and gods.
“Do you believe men and women only behave differently due to social constructs?”
Not only. But I do think societies often enforce and amplify the slight natural differences and invents the idea that men and women can only do certain things.
“Do you believe that people are for the most part good, and society makes them evil? Or do you believe that people are for the most part evil but society makes them better?”
I think people are for the most part good. And there’s only two things I know that can make good people do bad things, religious and political beliefs.
“Do you believe abortion is non-hazardous to society? Why are you for abortion?”
I’m not for abortion, I’m for the choice. There is a big difference. The no. 1 proven way to improve a whole societies well being is to guarantee women’s reproductive rights. That plus proper education of contraception options and guaranteeing their availability is the only proven way to reduce abortions.
“Do you believe that a female leader would not start a war?”
I’m British, we’ve had one, she did start a war. But I’ve already said I do not think the differences between men and women’s nature is as great as some would make out.
“Do you believe selling sèx for money is the oldest trade?”
    Nope. For food it was.
“Wich political party do you affiliate with?”
None. I’m a true pragmatic centrist. I’ll vote for whose got the policies I think will do most good at the time, and won’t vote when I can’t tell the difference between runners.
“Who was your fzvorite philosopher, which Philosopher do you agree with the most?”
I really don’t have one. I have favourite schools and views but a lot of the time I see philosophy purely as a way to keep philosophers in work and out of everyone else’s hair.
“Also, is art important to the world?”
    Nope. It’s important to people.

  17. Sarnaath says:

    No.
No, but social constructs have a huge influence.
Neither, I suspect most people are born more neutral than anything and are heavily influenced by society, upbringing, personality, life experiences, etc.
Yes. I’m not ‘for’ abortion, but I am for abortion rights because I think women should have control over their bodies. I don’t think society is benefited from bringing unwanted children into the world. I don’t outright believe the Freakonmics theory about abortion and the drop in crime, but it makes sense and could could have been contributing factor.
    No.
    I have no idea.
So far, I’ve always voted Democratic.
    I don’t have one.
No. Art is nice and all, but ‘important’? No.

  18. Kyle Fox says:

Morality arises from basic game theory. Any society in which people behave morally (cooperate, in game theory terms) will survive longer than one without any such morals. As such, all societies that are around now have pretty effective moral codes. Look up the iterated prisoner’s dilemma and other related concepts for a better idea of why this works.
Men and women are biologically different, and as such there’s some biological basis the difference in their behavior. However, there’s also a large amount of social pressure associated with it. After all, we’ve seen in the past century or so that women are perfectly capable of performing tasks commonly associated with men, and vice versa.
Everyone wants to be good. Fundamentally, “evil” arises because people define good differently. If your definition of good is faith in God and mine is helping people at any cost, there are bound to be conflicts of interest. Scale that up, and you get people calling each other evil and dedicating their lives to fighting one another.
In the case of rape, or when the mother will die otherwise, I absolutely support abortion. In general, though, I advocate responsibility before conception, rather than afterward. I’m much happier about birth control than abortion.
A female leader is just as likely to start a war as a male leader. There really isn’t that large a distinction between the genders.
I don’t think it’s possible for only one trade to exist. Why take the money if there’s nothing else to buy? That said, selling sex does have to be one of the first professions, because there wouldn’t be much else to sell in early societies.
I’m a firm believer that political parties make people more dogmatic and more dangerous to society. See the politics and government section of YA if you don’t believe me. If I absolutely must choose, I’m a member of the Guilty Party.
My favorite philosopher is Socrates, although I don’t actually agree with most of what he said. I like that he encouraged people to keep asking questions.
Art is absolutely important. We live in a beautiful universe, and it would be a shame to deny the artistic value in that.
