Why Are So Many Christians So Ignorant Of Their Own Professed Religion?

* Perceive temptation as sin, while the Bible says that temptation is inevitable and what we do with that temptation determines sin;
* Try to dictate who is and who is not going to Heaven, ignore John 3:17 and the words spoken by the Apostle Paul;
* Look at me stupid when I mention the Beatitudes;
* Can’t tell me the 10 commandments, the Fruits of the Spirit, the Gifts of the Spirit;
* Take single scriptures out of context with the verses before and after and completely ignorant of the conditions under which the words were spoken or written …..
Former Christian, Christian School student, haven’t stepped foot inside a church (except for one wedding) in almost 10 years — yet scriptures I haven’t read in over 20 years are ingrained in my memory and spill out onto the keyboard, Yet Christians who go to church every Sunday like clockwork and who claim to have their daily devotionals and Bible study time, can’t tell me the basic fundamentals of Christianity?
It’s probably a good thing I’m not phony, because I believe I could start a church and reign in all these ignorant, self-professed Christians and become the next Jim Jones on their dime.
I don’t get it. If you don’t love and devour the Holy Scriptures of your religion, regardless of that religion, then how can you affiliate yourselves as one of them?

  1. Christian Sceptic says:

    Many Christians don’t bother studying the Bible. Instead, they read “Become a Better You” or some other bogus quasi-Christian books.
    Like Charles Spurgeon said, “There is more wisdom in one line of the writings of the Puritans than on an entire page of modern books.”

  2. Braindead Brainiac says:

    No, you don’t get it. Religion is committment to God and man in love. The Bible is important but knowledge without action only condemns you. And knowing the Bible doesn’t make you more Christian. It is loving God with your whole mind but it doesn’t put you above anybody else.

  3. Chambers Aluna says:

    Why ignore any verse in the Bible? They are all put there for a purpose.
    Find the Ten Commandments here in, EXODUS 20:3-17
    If a person is called to preach, than they could start a church.
    Are you Christian yourself?

  4. Mr.C says:

    John 3:16
    King James Version (KJV)
    “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

  5. LaneComm says:

    I probably know more about their religion then most of them do. I told someone to read the bible and tell me they where a christian after. He changed his mind after the guy almost murdered his son.

  6. my bad gaiz says:

    Yeah most atheists know more about religion then theists.

  7. Dr. Mengele..SS says:

    John 3:17;
    The first time Jesus came to earth was: so that the world through Him might be saved:
    When Jesus comes again He will come in judgement upon those who refused His offer of salvation.

  9. Jim says:

    They’ve never read it–that’s why they’re a Christian.

  10. Yeng says:

    ATHEIST!

  11. THE GRIM REAPER says:

    Why are atheists such *****?

  12. Mr. C says:

    It’s easier that way.

    Revelation 2:4 … have abandoned your first love.
    When you first get saved, (especially if that happens during or after your teen years) the mechanics of it all are interesting and fresh and hopeful, but its easy to get wrapped up in the things of this world and think about what it means for me to be a Christian less and less and to think about what does this Bible verse or passage mean to me less and less, until you are just sort of doing everything by rote.
    Also, if we refuse to learn what God wants or dare I say requires of us by acting stupid, then we can get away with being our own gods with out realizing it its sin.
    Plus, not every person who is a Christian will have the intellectual capacity to grasp all these things. But I think mostly its a check your brain at the door mentality. Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your mind, and all your strength”. So the brain or mind is supposed to be engaged.
    For me personally, I want to love God more and more, but its exhausting to keep thinking about why He did this or that in the daily scriptures I read. For example, today I read about how he kept the sun and moon still for half a day during the time of Joshua. But I have no clue as to why this was important to do or what it means for today, or exactly how did He do that without causing a big mess. So, sometimes I have to let it go and trust God to reveal it to me or not, in His good time.
    I respect your point very much and hope you will again become a Christian or maybe for the first time become a Christian, because we need intellectually honest and hard working non-ignorant people like you.

  14. Peter says:

    “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The same in the beginning was with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was light, and the light was the life of men. The light shineth in darkness, but the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He was not that light, but came to bear witness to the light.”
    How is that straight from memory?
