Do You Enjoy Your Job As Being A Teacher?

I’m really thinking about becoming a teacher. I use to think that teachers were under-payed and that was the main reason why I didn’t want to become one in the past. But, as I’ve grown into a young man whose about to graduate this year, I find that teaching may be the perfect niche for me. Of course the pay isn’t that well, but I would have great benefits, all weekends off, no night shifts, all when I am 22 years old (if I graduated college on time). I plan on majoring in Middle Level Education which focuses on grades 4th thru 8th grade and I would prefer teaching either Math or Science since those are my two favorite subjects. I’d just like to know how other teacher felt about their job. Do you enjoy teaching? Share your thoughts or experiences, it’ll be very helpful towards me! Thanks for your time!

I’m actually sitting here crying because I have to go back to work tomorrow. All I did all summer was research other things I can go back to school for. That doesn’t mean you’ll hate it.

Personally I love teaching. I actually hold a degree in Business and I spent many years working in an office putting more money into some guy I never met’s pocket. I got paid well, the benefits were actually a lot better than the ones I have now and I never had to work nights or weekends there either. The problem was that the job was repetitive, mundane and unrewarding. My family nearly had a heart attack when I told them I was considering quitting and going back to college to obtain a teaching degree. Now, I actually do work weekends (I bring home a lot of paper work), nights (I teach high school where being an adviser over extracurricular activities is not exactly a suggestion – it’s kind of a requirement) and I make less with worse benefits BUT I also find it rewarding and it is anything but repetitive and mundane. I come to work each day not knowing what is going to happen and I have been able to really make a difference in the lives of my students. All in all, its a great profession if you are doing it because you love it – not because you think you are getting a lot of fringe benefits you will likely never see.

I absolutely love being a teacher!! The reality … helping people become the very best they can be! Yea it’s exhausting, there’s loads of after-hours work/prep (wkends, holidays, evenings are not quite time off!) and for the most, there’s little reward. However, you better believe the world goes round because teachers exist. Picutre a world minus educators? Learning is key and it is an honour to assist students in this process and to help them develop applicable skills for their course in life. No matter what you choose to teach, your role as a teacher can be of life-changing value. A good teacher invests wholheartedly – an engaged teacher builds humanity through the upholding of consistent teaching and learning. When content is mundane, you passionately and creatively bring it to life! You personalize the content to every single student and in multiple ways, so as to capture each different learner. Great idea to choose what you naturally like – Maths/Science – go for it! All the best to you!
