How Does Uk Local Government Work?

We’ve got the local elections coming up on May 5th and I haven’t a clue as to how local government/councils work. All the candidates on my ballot paper are affiliated to the main political parties. How does that work. Do they have to do what there respective party leaders tell them?

They are part of a group, so just like if you were in a union there will be pressure to conform to what the group wants, but essentially they have an independant vote.

    Do they !

Exactly the same as the national government. All led by corruption, greed and incompetence. That they are told what to do by the political parties who are owned by the organisations and people who fund those is neither here nor there. When we vote for one of them it means we are owned as well.
