How Do I Start A Successful Rugby Program In My High School Area?

My high school is in a first-rung suburb of Minneapolis, and is very poor. Budget cuts every year. The fact we’re surrounded by much richer schools doesn’t help our rep. But me and a few friends love the game of rugby, but the high school can’t sanction it for obvious reasons. Hell they might even drop a sport or two! My friend said that we can start a U-19 team that doesnt have to be affiliated with our school, but affiliated with the MN rugby…thingy.
Do any of you have tips on how we should go about publicizing the club concept, getting players, coaches etc? Thank you!

I would contact USA rugby, or whatever your local or regional rugby organization is; they would probably be able to point you in the right direction.
When I played, the local HS club was not affiliated with my high school, but with a nearby one, and as far as I could tell, they received no support from that school whatsoever, in terms of facilities or anything like that. You may loathe this concept, but if you know any one at the nearby, richer schools who’s interested in rugby, have them see about their school providing support for a team; unless you’ve got huge numbers at your school, your U-19 team will be drawing in people from various schools; my side had people from at least 3 area high schools.
The other possibility is finding a local club that has (or is willing to start) a U-19 side.
