If I Am Providing Information About A Company On My Website, Can That Company Ask Me To Take The Stuff Off?

I run a website that provides profiles and contact information about certain businesses which rely on hiring contractors. I basically help people get in contact with these businesses to get hired. So, I got a Cease and desist letter from one of the companies (not a court order, basically a warning) and I’m wondering if I’m really doing anything wrong and should respond. They claim I am advertising their business (which who the hell turns down free advertising?!) in ways that they do not approve. I do have a disclaimer on my site which states that I am not affiliated with any of the companies mentioned on the site. Isn’t that enough in my defense?

Yes they can because you are giving out personal information and they can sue you if they want example its like takeing your friends information in place it on the web so he can ask to take it off because its there personal informations. Now if you ask them and sign a agreement that saying that you can than they cant do any thing about it.

Legally, a cease and desist order is a legal document of notification for you to stop advertising their company. It is the first step in formal legal action against you for libel or slander if you continue to utilize the companies information in a manner unacceptable to the company. Your “disclaimer” is meaningless when you are involving other companies, because you do not have the legal right to provide the information that you do on your site. If you received a cease and desist order, you are doing something wrong if you continue to provide information about the company on your site.
