How To Handle With Depression Whilst Finding A Job In This Market?

I’m 28 years old and I’m unemployed.
My fiancee was unemployed for eight months and recently found a job. She’s elated, and we have some income rolling in, but I have to always cash some of my stocks in my IRA brokerage portfolio, which was meant for our future retirement fund and I’ve been out of work for four months now. I have a BA in English, but I’ve worked as a handyman, I know how to lay tile, all the traits affiliated with carpentry, I speak four languages fluently and cannot find a job, here in Tampa, FL.
After I had graduated, I couldn’t find a job stateside, so I lived in Madrid, working for the Spanish Ministry of Education, teaching in a bilingual public school. Six months later, when the program ended, I couldn’t find a job, so my fiancee’s mom got me a temp job working at Lockheed Martin, as a shipping/receiving clerk, for barely $13 an hour, but a year later, I got a job at L’Oreal, as a procurement analyst, making $38,000 a year. I lost that job six months later, due to a massive layoff within the company.
So, I find myself unemployed, unable to find work anywhere. I’ve applied to gas stations, manual labor jobs, construction. I would even dig a ditch if somebody paid me. Also, my friends, who have degrees in Chemistry, Engineering, etc, cannot find jobs either and I have friends that used to be electricians, plumbers, welders, and they are jobless as well. There are simply no jobs stateside.
What are some tips to keep out of depression? What would be some job tips you would use in a situation like this?
I also worked 80 hour weeks at Lockheed Martin and didn’t mind it one bit, because I was being paid. I’m not lazy.
Thanks.

Jobs, Or The Earth? Which Do You Choose?

It’s no secret that fossil fuel consumption, and CO2 spewing fuels in general are harming our environment. And it’s also no secret that we are still recovering from the toughest times since the Great Depression.
So, even if it means that our planet’s human-induced global climate change problem is accelerated by the burning of fossil fuels, do you value “jobs” over the Earth?
Also, I think it’s hilarious how different fuel industries *market* themselves:
Coal ——- It’s about jobs! We have LOTS of it, and it’s cleaner now than it was in the past!
Oil ——– It’s about jobs! We need to get off of foreign oil! And it’s cleaner than coal!
Natural Gas —— Cleaner than coal or oil!
etc. etc. (no matter how bad something is, it’s “good” because it’s “better” than something else)

When Everything Seems Meaningless, …?

Hi, people. I’d like to ask you a question:
What would you do if you feel like living is meaningless?
I mean, I feel like time is passing around me, and I’m here “standing quite still”, staring at it pass right through my eyes.
I may have depression, social anxiety (sociophobia), so I’m not good in talking to people, nor I can’t.
I don’t know what I like doing anymore, I’m always bored and tired.
I want to do things, but I don’t know what… It’s like everything I used to like now seem useless.
I’m a teenager. At the end of next year, I’ll try entering in a college. So I have only to the next year to do something “funny” before the “professional life” will actually begin.
I’m programming myself to change, I’m trying to change into someone who enjoys life.
I try enjoying life, but what is it? What’s enjoy life, what’s “Carpe Dien?” (seize the day)…
How can I enjoy something if I don’t know my likes and dislikes?
I feel numb… time is passing but I don’t feel it, I think I don’t feel nothing anymore…
I’m like a nobody occupying a niche… In school some people try talking to me… Since I got really “depressed” (about 2 years ago) I got antisocial and scared to talk to people. I had only one friend, and now he is away from me. I lost all my friends.
Now I’m trying to get them back, talk to people, but it’s really tough, and even doing that, I still I feel numb, and worthless, useless…
I have one last year in normal school, before study become work, and work becomes a reality, and “fun things” become “teenager silly stuffs, unacceptable to your age”.
I’ve never had a girlfriend, or even something similar.
I don’t know what is living…
I think for me it doesn’t matter if I’m alive or dead…
In any case, I feel like I’m a dead who is somehow living…
I began trying to change myself since a month ago. I got sick of all this, so since then I’m trying to do things I was scared to do before. Which means, get back my friends, talk to them, even though a Hi, and other few, small challenges but that’s not the point.
I try finding things that interest me, but I don’t know exactly how. So far I haven’t find a clue…
The only thing I actually enjoy doing is listening to musics from all over the world in many languages. Right now I’m listening to russian. So, I study languages as well, but I turned it into “work”, I got too worried about the work life, and so I found myself studying not more because it was fun, but because I had to, so I got bored , burned-out about it too, except the musics.
I feel after all, I’ll not even get a job, so… I’m destined to die all alone without having actually lived? I think this is my biggest fear… though I realize it happens everyday…
I see people who seems to be happy… traveling around the world, knowing new people, doing whatever they want to…
Why can’t I?
*** What would you do in such situation? ***
Please, please, don’t tell me “go to a doctor/counselor/therapy/talk to someone”, killing myself or anything similar, really.
Just try imagining yourself in such case, and if possible, try answering me by what would you do.
Just to be clear:
– I’m not suicidal, I don’t want, never tried and never will try to killing myself;
– I won’t go a doctor;
– I just want to find a meaning on life….
*Forgive my wrong english, my native language isn’t it.
Thanks for reading/answering.

How Can I Profit Off Of The Future Collapse Of The Economy?

O.K. I am not trying to be Monty Burns here, I would just like to know if there are any niches, brainstorming ideas, or investments that you might view as beneficial during a future recession/depression. Thank you kindly.

Are You Ready For The Next “great Depression” And Do You Know Who Caused It?

The Beast Is Starved: Welcome to the Next Great Depression
by John Atcheson
Since Reagan, Republicans have been on a “starve the beast” campaign – by which they mean eviscerate the government by taking away as much revenue as they can.
Starving the beast has been the biggest bait and switch con game that has ever been perpetrated on the American people. And the most tragic.
“Well, if past is prologue, welcome to the next Great Depression.” (photo of mother and children As Paul Krugman pointed out, Republicans offered popular tax cuts so that they could later cut popular government programs “as a necessity.” Oh, we’d love to continue providing low cost, effective medical care under Medicare, but you see, the country just can’t afford it … Of course we can’t. Billionaire hedge fund managers and Wall Street traders pay less in taxes than their secretaries. And most corporations pay little or no taxes.
Starve the Beast was coupled with a clever campaign to make government appear to be a collection of bumbling bureaucrats who wasted tax money for pure pleasure. Long after it became politically impossible to stereotype racial and ethnic groups (with the possible exceptions of Muslims) it was – and is – quite acceptable to characterize government workers as shiftless, lazy and incompetent.
As a result, once the Republicans succeeded in cutting government revenue to the bone and beyond, it became impossible to raise taxes – who wants to give any more of their hard earned money to a bunch of lazy bureaucrats?
Never mind that most big government programs are far more efficient than their private sector equivalents. That’s a mere fact. Can’t let that get in the way of starving the beast.
Bait and switch. Divide and Conquer.
So, after starting with a surplus in 2000, Republicans used two wars, two rounds of tax cuts, and a giant giveaway to big Pharma, to get the country racking up debt like a drunken sailor.
Along comes the Bush recession, and the debt accelerates, and the Republicans declare the debt to be an “emergency” and right on schedule immediately attack popular programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Student loans –and virtually anything that doesn’t help the uber rich or the corporations suddenly must be cut if we are to stay solvent.
Never mind that cutting Social Security to balance the budget is like attacking the mailman because your car doesn’t work. It has nothing to do with the budget – but again, that’s a mere fact. When you’re drowning the beast, facts don’t matter.
So OK. The beast is drowned. Keynes is dead. Now what?
Well, if past is prologue, welcome to the next Great Depression.
See, the dirty little secret is that we never had a debt “crisis.” We had a jobs crisis.
While Republicans were arguing about the faux “crisis” and the press and Obama joined them, we got a series of disturbing economic signals. Consumer confidence was down, manufacturing was off, May and June’s job numbers were pathetic. In fact, if not for a hiring binge by McDonald’s there would have been a net job loss in May. That’s something to hang your hat on: McDonalds accounted for what little job growth there was. What’s next, America gets saved by an uptick in Wall Mart greeters?
Look. This whole drown the beast strategy has been nothing more than a stealth tactic for instituting an extremist version of a laissez faire, market uber-alles policy designed by and for the Plutocracy.
And to be sure, it’s worked great for them. Today, the richest 1% owns 40% of the nation’s wealth, and the top 10% owns nearly 75% of it.
The rest of us? Not so much.
Income and wealth inequality in the US has been increasing rapidly since Reagan, (with a slight break under Clinton). In terms of income inequality, the US now ranks about the same as Ivory Coast, Uganda and Cameroon – countries not exactly noted for being prosperous, equitable and just societies.
News flash for all the debt mongers, Tea Partiers and other assorted ignoramuses. You can’t run a consumer-based economy when the vast majority of consumers don’t have enough money to buy anything. After all, Paris Hilton can only buy so many yachts; Corporate CEOs can only purchase so many jetliners – even with their special jet tax credits; and Wall Street traders can only buy so many Bugattis. But middle and working class Americans need to spend their money on food, lodging, and other necessities.
Here’s the dirty little secret: Republicans want the economy to fail. They want Obama to fail, and they don’t care who gets hurt in the process. They want these things, because the beast is in the bathtub and they can almost taste its demise.
The pieces are in place for the Plutocrats final victory … an industry friendly Supreme Court; a Democratic Party that is either in collusion with the plutocrats, or so cowardly as to be neutered;

Why Do Conservative Republicans Always Create A Total Economic Disaster?

Historical facts prove that republican policies create record deficits, record debts and economic disaster.
Both our great depressions were at the end of long-term republican control:
Jan 1920-1932 = Entire republican government = Great Depression 1
Jan 2001-2007 = Entire republican government = Great Depression 2
Republicans controlled the entire govt for 6 years and created a disaster which they blame on Obama.
Between Jan 20, 2001-2009…under Bush’s policies of deregulation, lax regulation enforcement, corporate welfare and a 15% tax rate on stock profits for wealthy people:
Gasoline tripled from 1.44 to 4.11 per gallon (peaked July 2008)
Unemployment skyrocketed 80% from 4.2% to 7.8%…8.2% Obama’s first full month
Dow Jones stock market plunged 25% from 10,587 to 7,949
Budget went from a 236 billion surplus to a 1.3 TRILLION deficit (a 1.5 trillion drop)
National debt doubled from 5.7 trillion to 10.6 trillion (a 4.9 trillion increase)
Borrowed 2.5 trillion for tax cuts for mostly wealthy people
Borrowed a trillion dollars for two fake wars (all hijackers were from saudi arabia)
Borrowed a trillion dollars for Medicare part D which outlawed govt bulk discounts
Trillions in secret Federal Reserve loans to prop up wall street
USA losing 700,000 jobs monthly – unemployment rate growing 1% every 6 weeks
Economy in total freefall
This is called “common sense conservative government”
Obama inherited a total disaster and it will not be fixed overnight
