What Role Do Politicians Or Politics Play In The Skepticism Toward Global Warming?

Skepticism is the wrong term, I am a skeptic by nature, but that doesn’t mean I refuse to accept facts. The science is settled and the facts are that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, that without greenhouse gases the earth average temperature would be 33C colder (a giant snowball) and that we have added 40% more CO2 to the atmosphere. There is not one scientist who denies these facts.
The deniers (of climate science) claim that all this additional CO2 has no or little effect on the heat retention capabilities and a recent study has (again) shown that climate change deniers are either extreme free marketeers or conspiracy theorists.
“Although nearly all domain experts agree that human CO2 emissions are altering the world’s climate, segments of the public remain unconvinced by the scientific evidence. Internet blogs have become a vocal platform for climate denial, and bloggers have taken a prominent and influential role in questioning climate science. We report a survey (N > 1100) of climate blog users to identify the variables underlying acceptance and rejection of climate science. Paralleling previous work, we find that endorsement of a laissez-faire conception of free-market economics predicts rejection of climate science (r .80 between latent constructs). Endorsement of the free market also predicted the rejection of other established scientific findings, such as the facts that HIV causes AIDS and that smoking causes lung cancer. We additionally show that endorsement of a cluster of conspiracy theories (e.g., that the CIA killed Martin-Luther King or that NASA faked the moon landing) predicts rejection of climate science as well as the rejection of other scientific findings, above and beyond endorsement of laissez-faire free markets. This provides empirical confirmation of previous suggestions that conspiracist ideation contributes to the rejection of science. Acceptance of science, by contrast, was strongly associated with the perception of a consensus among scientists.”
The funniest claim that I have seen on this section of yahoo, is the claim that thousands of scientists all over the world are conspiring in secret in order to get politicians to raise taxes on every one (including the scientist) and/or to institute a one world oppressive government. And to put the icing on the cake they call those who accept the science “alarmist”….

Well Politicians need crises and situations, to add to their control, at the moment global warming suits politicians it helps them further the policies they wish to impose on their constituents, so they try to play down even insult skepticism.
It is true that in all sides of global warming, no-one wants the full truth and nothing but the truth, that would only hurt and hinder their efforts to win their argument.

The pathologically-selfish, greed-mongering Deniers impose their will on paranoid, scientifically illiterate nitwits through brute force, intimidation, and shameless lies. The blame for their being allowed to succeed in framing and controlling the debate falls on (1) cowardly politicians who know that AGW is real, but choose to protect their privileged positions rather than stand up for what is right; (2) a “news” media that has forsaken journalism and professional ethics in a race for ratings and revenue; but (3) mostly, it falls on a willfully ignorant, anti-education public who prefer the lazy acceptance of lies over the effort and work of learning.
If they were the only victims, I would love to let them get what they deserve. Unfortunately, stupidity on such a massive scale radiates destruction like fallout from a nuclear bomb. Ignorance has always been a part of life – but, I think that the act of consciously choosing to be stupid – and to embrace that stupidity as if it was some kind of Goddamn moral imperative – is a new twist on the human experience.
Fortunately for most of us, we probably won’t be around when the stupid bird comes home to roost – but we’re not doing our descendants any favors.

n the UK the brain washed House of Parliament passed the Climate Change Act which will force the UK to close down 85% of its industry with one vote against.
Madness, they should be representing the views of their electorate, instead of pursuing a left wing agenda which day by day is looking shakier on its foundations.
