Ask your instructor for the practical uses of it

generally kicks like those in taekwondo are bad in a real fight. do some damage, but its slow and really obvious compared to punching or pushing, u r off balance and can get real nasty if they catch ur foot. if u r in a school fight (particularly if with multiple opponents) then try to stay with both feet on the ground and mostly use hand techniques and knees

TKD *could* be very effective. It has all the tools. Don’t listen to people who say things like, “TKD sucks because kicking isn’t practical” because 1. TKD isn’t just kick and 2. not all the kicks are impractical. Many of the kicks in TKD are starting to become more common in MMA thanks to fighters like Anderson Silva and GSP, like the back kick and spinning hook kick (which the commentators erroneously call a wheel kick… there is a difference).
Also TKD has more hand techniques than it does kicking, so even if a situation didn’t call for a kick, TKD can address that situation too.
So TKD has every bit of potential to be lethal. The reason it has the reputation it does is because of the McDojangs (probably more than there are quality schools) and because of the focus on sport and not on self-defense. But that’s not the fault of the art itself.
… now that’s the true about the art itself… in reality, I have found it isn’t easy to find a good TKD school. It seems that most TKD schools are either McDojangs or focused so much on the sport that they might as well just be considered a full time sport like boxing.

It depends on what training the footballer or big guy has and the fact that they can often take plenty of hits before they begin melting it out in return. For you to make a taekwondo kick effective you have to be very fast and do it with a lot of power all at once, if you fail or if the person you are trying to kick is trained in Krav Maga or another self defense system whilst you are in mid flight they will simply take a step backwards, grab your ankle and punch you in the groin then break your leg and then beat the living suitcase out of you, if you were the first cause of the fight you will likely get beaten up pretty badly.

    It’s kinda bad.

you can kick anyone you like…:))
    but
prepare for a long battle thats the main thing!
can u make sure u can respond his counter strikes?
make sure u get the good target, and knock him down ASAP..
    or he’ll knock you down..
    stamina, accuracy, and timing…
if you know you re not gonna win, make sure u leave him some of ur signatures, blood cuts, black eyes, or anything that give him a lesson..
