Difficulty Finding Myself As A Musician?

Im 17, and i love music. I got into producing about a year ago now, and i just can’t seem to get a hold of who i am as a producer. Some days ill produce hip hop, then some days ill produce like complex electric music, and the range of music i enjoy is so broad. My favourite artists / categories are, The Weekend, Skrillex, Frank Ocean, old smooth jazz, 90’s hip hop (especially the beats), John legend, city and colour, bon iver, and even some of the unordinary generes including Jai Paul, and Shlohmo. I just cant seem to find who i am as a producer though. Im not sure what i like best. Listen to the two different tracks in the link below and see how different they are. Anyway yea i just want advice, becuase i would like to stick to one genre? But i like so many…

Well, I think as a lover of music you are bound to have a pretty eclectic taste in different types of music. I definitely like to think of that as a good ting. (I like everything from indie rock, to mainstream pop, to 60s and 70s folk, to reggae…even some electronic) When it comes to what type of music you want to produce, I think that at this point you are young enough to still play around with all different types of genres. Try different things with different genres and I think just with time you will kind of figure out what your best at or what you really do enjoy the most. You will find your own niche in producing, and you will have a sound that is completely your own. Don’t try to pigeon hole yourself just yet!

Don’t just stick to one genre. If you’re good at making all kinds of music, be trained in all kinds of music, and that way, you can send out your music to a lot of different kinds of artists and you can hold a wide variety of production credits. Keep producing different genres. I like your songs, btw, the second one is awesome.

Don’t feel restricted to one genre. I personally love rock the most but then I like a lot of other kinds of music. Just be open. The thing with me is that i love listening to rock but its hard to sing and my music teacher has me singing choir and pop and such. Being open to different music is a amazing talent and you should be proud of that.
