Skateboard, Longboard, Or Cruiser?

I’m having a difficult time selecting my first board, because I want something that fills both the niches that skateboards and longboards cover; I want something portable and capable of doing tricks, but I also want something to commute around campus/city long distances. I was “making” a board on skateboard warehouse and ultimately came up with a 7.6 with 52 mm wheels, but I feel that it will suck for commuting. Would I still be able to do tricks if I got high trucks and 60 mm’s? Or is 7.6 too small, regardless?
In that case, could you recommend a longboard/cruiser setup? Most of the research I’ve done has been in skateboards…

I can tell you now that if you want to do tricks, you would want a skateboard. longboards and cruisers are more for transportation where is skateboards cater to both transportation and doing tricks.
Also, if you’re making a skateboard, I’d suggesting checking out my attached a link as it gives you a sizing chart based on the board you are making.
