A Question To Black Mormons?

I have been black in this country 43 years and I cannot figure out why you would choose to affiliate with a racist orginization like mormons
I hate salt lake city because everytime I fly through there you can feel the weirdness and bigotry hell I rather be in the south at least there I know?
What is the allure, they don’t like you or care about you…so why?

i’m black and mormon and it’s because mormonism is the greatest religion in the world.

  2. Someone Somewhere says:

    How is this exposing Catholicism?

  3. Someone who cares says:

It is obvious you have not associated with Mormons as you would find wide acceptance and virtually no racism whatsoever.

  4. Desiree Rowe says:

And they wonder why they don’t have a great following in South Africa. because they say one thing and practice another. One of the many reasons I left and returned to the faith of my birth.

  5. Rick says:

You must be talking to the 4 black Mormons.
Edit: Oh yeah, what color were you before 43 years ago?

  6. Zuboko says:

Here is a website created by black Mormons dedicated to setting the record straight regarding blacks and the church.http://www.blacklds.org/
You can also go here and take a look at what Blacks have chosen to post on Mormon.org about the church. http://mormon.org/people/find/
you will have to filter the results yourself but it is as simple as selecting from a drop down list.
There is a lot of myth about blacks and the church. If Mythbusters were to do episodes on all of them they could easily have enough material to do 3 seasons worth of episodes, most of which would be filled with busted myths.

I have always found this to be troubling for me as well. Some point to the fact that they aren’t racist anymore, but even still. The reason why they aren’t racist is because of the U.S. law, not the doctrine, that mandated in the 1970’s that any establishment that was racist, could not be tax exempt. Even though that wasn’t directed at the LDS (it was against private schools and the Boy Scouts among others) the president of the LDS had an “epiphany” in which God told him that Blacks were eligible for priesthood and thus equality among the church was tolerated. In all fairness, it wasn’t racist when the charlatan Joseph Smith was alive, but shortly after his death, Brigham Young instituted the racist policies which the church is most notably known for among their critics. Regardless of this, the Book of Mormon does have passages against people of a dark complexion. To be Black and a Mormon is moronic in my opinion.

Racist? Where did you get that?
If we are, we are no worse than the Protestants. I notice that the Methodists have segregated congregations, which we never had.
Look up Elijah Abel sometime. He was ordained during Joseph Smith, Jr.’s, lifetime. Elijah’s son and grandson were also ordained ministers in my church. We ordained black clergy way earlier than a lot of churches did.
It’s time to come in from the cold and get a hug. Some of us certainly are jerks. I’ve been on the receiving end of a lot of that. But some of us are the salt of the earth, true disciples of Jesus Christ as well. (Um, I’m not saying that I’m in either group, mind you.)
    God bless you.
