Does This Sound Legit? It Looks Like A Scam.?

I posted my resume on craigslist for an office assistant job. Then I received an email that said “you are invited to complete an application, please complete as soon as possible or we will move on to another candidate. If we don’t hear from you by tomorrow we will move on to the next candidate” The salary posted was $18 per hour for an office assistant/customer service position which sounds too good to be true. In the email that I recieved from them they gave me a code that I had to enter into their website in order to complete the application Then once I entered the code I got this message:
Verification Required Step 3 of 3 (Required)
Because you will potentially be working in a professional environment dealing with sensitive information, we highly recommend that all applicants obtain a standard credit check. We believe that it is extremley important for you to be aware of what is on your credit report before interviewing for any type of employment. There is no charge for the actual credit check and it will not negatively influence your credit. The credit check is done through a 3rd party and our company does not have access to it. When you complete the credit check keep it handy for your records.
If you have not pulled your score within the last 2 months,
you can get it instantly by Clicking Here (will open in a new window)
After you have completed your credit check, please send an email to compliance@davisandparker.cjb.net
Please title your email ‘Application/Credit Check Complete’ and simply include your name in body of the email.
We will forward your application to the appropriate department as soon as the verification has been completed.

    It’s a SCAM
Read the last bullet point of Craigslist’s scam warnings – that’s how common this scam ishttp://www.craigslist.org/about/scams
“DO NOT SUBMIT TO CREDIT CHECKS OR BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR A JOB OR FOR HOUSING UNTIL YOU HAVE MET THE INTERVIEWER OR LANDLORD/AGENT IN PERSON. ”
It’s in all caps so you can’t miss it
The FTC has a warning about this as well – fake credit reporting sites designed to steal your identity http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer…
Write back to the employer that you will BRING a copy of a recent credit report with you to the interview. If it is a legitimate job offer this will always be fine.
If an employer requires a credit check they DO NOT ask for this of every applicant. They interview you in person first and then make you sign a waiver allowing THEM to run a credit report on you if required for the job. You certainly would never want to give this private info to any company unless you KNEW you wanted to work for them.
I have never heard of any Assistant or Customer Service job requiring a credit report, that’s normally only for people in the accounting department
And just look up the website davisandparker.cjb.net – it doesn’t exist. Call Directory Assistance — is there even a company called Davis and Parker listed in your city?

    Standard scam. Either.
    1. A site trying to make money by charging you for a credit score.
    2. Someone out there to steal your identity with your personal information.
There is no job. I’ve seen a million questions on here about this scam.
New name for Craigslist (for jobs) = Scams List.
