Can You Install Tiles On Top Of Tiles?

Tile guy built a terrible, crooked shower niche. I’m wondering if I can attach some tiles on top of these tiles to make sort of a frame and cover the crooked cuts on the base tiles. How do you securely attach a tile on top of a tile?

It cannot be done with ceramic tiles…the old ones must be removed. Why don’t you have the guy come back and correct what’s wrong?

That’s not a good idea. Trying to cover up shoddy work will end up looking even worse. Better to demolish and remove the crap and start fresh. That way you’ll end up with a shower that looks and works good.

You can but it will look awful if that’s the only place you want to tile ..
You might consider using a tile trim strip just to get the line straight but it would need a silicon bead along it to maintain water proofing

It s always best to remove and start fresh, but to answer your question, yes you can tile over tile. There are thin sets that will bond to tile.
These thin sets will bond just as tight as if you were bonding to a fresh , proper substrate.
Certain steps must be done but its possible.
