What Do I Need To Look For In A Doctor?

I am a 28 year old female. I have a regular gynecologist I visit annually for a pelvic exam and pap smear, however I would like to find another doctor that is not necessarily so specialized in a specific area. I would like to get all other aspects of my body checked out, heart, blood, lungs etc…
I live in a major metropolitan area, so I do have access to a varying amount of physicians. I am unmarried and have no children, so I am not really in the market for a family doctor, just a regular physician. Would this just be a doctor who simply specializes in Internal Medicine? Are there any specific benefits a hospital affiliated doctor can provide vs. a private practice doctor?

Most family physicians practice in a private-practice setting, and you don’t have to be married or have children to go see a family physician. If you’re just looking for an annual “check-up,” a family physician would be the way to go. Hospital affiliated doctors usually, although not always, specialize in areas in which family physicians are not as specialized: gastroenterologist, gynecologist, cardiologist, immunologist. Generally you see these physicians if your primary care physician refers you to see them. Physicians specializing in internal medicine CAN act as your primary care physician but are usually consulted when a more complicated diagnosis is needed.
