I Need Some Help On A Few Questions For An Ap Bio Test. Please Help!?

1. Why was Darwin surprised by the discovery of elephant and hippo-resembling fossils in a riverbed in Argentina?
a. Darwin didn’t know that elephants and hippos could exist in the same habitat together.
b. Darwin had found similar fossils on the Cape Verde Islands.
c. Elephant-like and hippo-like animals no longer lived in Argentina.
d. No fossils had ever been found in Argentina.
Why is it said that the English rabbit and Patagonian hare occupy a similar niche?\
a. Both hares and rabbits live primarily on islands.
b. They are both adapted for a grazing lifestyle.
c. Both hares and rabbits have large ears.
d. They both belong to the same species.
2. A biologist was experimenting with plant cells. She ground up the cells and centrifuged the mixture and then separate the cell fractions, but she forgot to label the different fractions. When she tested fraction A, she found that it took up CO2 and released O2. She concluded that this fraction contained…
a. mitochondria.
b. chloroplasts.
c. lysosome.
d. ribosome.
e. vacuole.
3. All of the following statements about chromosomes are true EXCEPT
a. DNA condenses during mitosis in the life cycle of the cell.
b. A replicated chromosome consists of two chromatids that are identical.
c. An acrocentric chromosome has its centromere on the end of the chromosome.
d. Chromatin consists of DNA with associated proteins.
4. All of the following statements regarding the events of meiosis are correct EXCEPT
a. Synapsis and independent assortment are responsible for variation among the species.
b. Homologous chromosomes are always identical, and always control the same trait.
c. Synapsis refers to the process where chromosomes associate to form homologous pairs.
d. Chromosome pairs assort independently from one another during meiosis.
5. All of the following statements regarding spematogenesis are true EXCEPT
a. Testicles are descended below the body because of the lower temperature requirement for spermatogenesis.
b. The function of the nucleus of the sperm is to deliver a diploid set of genes to the egg cell.
c. In terms of layering, the outermost wall of the seminiferous tubules of the testes is where spermatids are found.
d. In the testes, the male germ cell allows for both mitosis and meiosis.
6. Restriction enzymes are sometimes used in the laboratory to
a. restrict DNA replication.
b. restrict DNA transcription.
c. restrict mRNA translation.
d. cut DNA molecules at specific sites.
e. cut DNA into manageable sizes for manipulation.
7. Select the example of passive transport across a cell membrane:
a. stimulation of a muscle cell.
b. uptake of glucose by microvilli of cells lining the intestine.
c. the movement of insulin across the cell membrane.
d. the movement of carbon dioxide across the cell membrane.
e. the movement of sodium ions across the cell membrane.
Thanks to anyone who will answer these. đŸ™‚ I have most of them narrowed down but I can’t figure em out by any means /:

Darwin’s fossils …. Probably C (which is true) but I don’t know for sure.
Rabbit Niche – C – niche is the role of the organism, and grazing is their role (and only answer that talks about role)
    Biologist with plant cells – B – uses CO2 gives off O2 – photosynthesis
    Chromosomes (3) – B – a regular chromosome has 2 chromatids, replicated has 4
Chromosomes (4) – B – Homologous chromosomes can be different (after crossing over)
Spermatogenesis (5) – B – Sperm are haploid not diploid
Restriction Enzymes (6) – D – they are what are used to cut open a DNA strand before inserting a new codon
Passive Transport (7) – not fully sure, I do not like it but I would guess A …
