Breeding With Aliens?

Someday we will make contact with a sentient species from another planet or galaxy, I am completely positive about that. What I was wondering is, if our species are gonna be in contact with each other constantly then it will be quite obvious that at some point we will try breeding with each other. How would all major religions deal with this (i.e Islam, Catholicism, Buddhism, Hinduism)? Would they be ok with it? Or would they call it bestiality?
I posted this here because I wanted to know what you guys think. If you are not affiliated with any religion that’s okay, just try to answer with an open mind.

first off: O_________O you have the most ridiculous imaginations ever.
ok. so think about how people now days still have reservations with interracial marriage. Its not a normal sight. Try taking that to a level that is 23094829048723418971 times higher than that.
Biologically, breeding with them will be impossible as they are different species. if they evolved convergently to be exactly similar to humans, that would be quite the uncanny coincidence. But they are not. We can establish then that they are not Homo Sapien, and that we cannot reproduce viable offspring with them… That, is the same situation with every other possible animal. we would all be the same species if we could all reproduce.
I can tell you about the religious aspects of this (namely the islamic): So islam does contend that humans are not the only beings in the universe.. various verses of the quran suggest that that is certain (i cant remember them though… if you really are dying to know, there is a book called “The Bible, the Quran, and Science” by a fellow named Maurice Bucaille, and its somewhere in there). Islam is a very sexually conservative religion (ie no relations before marriage) so as to prevent many societal byproducts of non-abstinence (children born out of wedlock etc.). This prudish idea and mentality applies to most all sexuality schtuffs. The prophet muhammad is verified to have been quoted to say that bestiality is “haraam” (explicitly forbidden). you can google this if you are dying to know once again… So because the aliens are not the same species as humans (presumably), we cannot marry them, and thus, we cannot “breed” with them. (the world will probably end before this happens anyways…) and i’m sure that catholicism and all the other religions have similar thoughts about bestiality and whatnot…
But also, keep in mind that if and when Extra Terrestrial contact happens, they may not even be physically perceivable; they might just be an amorphous blob of light. http://akrondave.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/alien-contact.jpg <-- that is an interesting thing to look at if you are interested in alien contact and what to do afterwards...

We could no more breed with an alien species than we can breed with dolphins or with honeybees.
An alien life form would not necessarily even have the kind of DNA we are familiar with, or might have a biology based on chemistry that is toxic to us.
Religions would have bigger problems reconciling themselves to the idea of a God who has other children. Imagine if you found out that your father a had a second wife and kids in another town.

  3. creede55 says:

it would be almost impossible to “breed” with “them”. for any two species to pro-create they need to share 99% DNA in common, I don’t think they will be anywhere near the same as us.
how will religions react to this? denial or violence or something else, hopefully they will be the minority when we make contact….

  4. Erica s says:

Chimpanzees share with us roughly 95% of our genes, and human/chimpanzee reproduction is impossible. We may well one day meet with alien intelligences, but the chances of physical sexual contact are virtually zero. I’m afraid there will never be a human/vulcan hybrid like Mr Spock, so your question will never arise.

  5. Sweetness and Light says:

Do you doubt that humans are the most perverted species, not just on Earth, but in the ENTIRE UNIVERSE?…
(And just to make it a little kinkier, how do you imagine your ‘love encounter’s with any alien species?….)

  6. Geronimos Gash says:

Perhaps they’ve already been here, altered our dna with theirs (missing link) and thus we are created in their image??? That might answer a lot for all the world religions and have them read their books from a different perspective

  7. clysm says:

I think we are a product of DNA refinements provided by advanced beings. Mating with them would be a step back for them.

  8. brew says:

I doubt any of the religions we know today will be around at that point.

  9. Billy Butthead says:

If they looked like an iguana,no.

  10. TheRealA says:

damn for once I actually agree with clyum. Why would an advanced alien species want to breed with us? Unless they’re looking to become psychotic monkeys I doubt they would want anything to do with our DNA.
But, as a point of argument, two things to consider:
Mixing DNA at all between our and an alien race is even possible and if doing so could present physical or environmental advantages.
Maybe an alien race would want to breed with us because it would mean they could inhabit other worlds. Or perhaps visa versa.
Still, of all the millions of species on our world the only one we can breed with is our own. I doubt a species from an entirely separate world is going to be able to breed with us.
Yet, perhaps such aliens are advanced in gene splicing or genetic engineering. Then rather than breed with us, they would just want to use our DNA to improve their species, if for nothing else, to colonize other planets or adopt strengths we may have that they don’t (but don’t ask me what). I could believe that. But that is assuming they even have genes or DNA that can be mingled with ours.
