A Future Secular Atheist America Is Coming Soon?!?

I don’t think America is becoming more religious. As a college student who knows many people across this country at institutions of higher education, most of them don’t believe in a god. As these younger generations grow up and make it into political office, religion will decline in civilized areas even more. I guarantee I’ll see the first president of this country who puts agnostic (or hopefully atheist) as their religious belief rather than Christian.
According to a 2007 Pew poll, the number of “non-affiliated” Americans was 16.1%, up from 8% just one decade before. This number is nearly 25% in the under 25 age group. And 55% of those who self-identify as “atheists” are under 35. So yes, the trend is that America is getting less religious and more and more young people in particular are turning away from religion.
Which is why the christian reich is turning up the volume and getting in every religious government law they can before they lose powerhttp://newsfeed.time.com/2011/03/23/stud…http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/03/23/stud…

I agree with your basic premise, but I don’t think those are the statistics that demonstrate it.
A large number of young people are “unaffiliated” (note: NOT atheist or agnostic) for roughly the same reason that college freshmen are more frequently of “undeclared” majors than college seniors: people have dissolute and uncertain identities before they have certain ones. The 55% figure (approximately half) dividing young atheists from old atheists actually ILLUSTRATES this – atheism might be on the rise, but it’s not necessarily a phenomenon of the younger generation.
I would say that it’s more accurate to say that religion is becoming less meaningful than to say that more people are flat-out identifying as atheists and agnostics (they are, but our numbers are still very small, and not growing terribly fast). That is to say, being a “Christian” MEANS less today than it used to, now being more of a social club and mild superstition, as opposed to the life-dominating and reality-dictating institution of yesteryear.

America is already a secular country and always has been. Only in a secular country can Freedom of Religion exist.
To achieve an Atheist America, several of our basic human rights would have to be tossed out, starting with our Freedom of Religion.
Have you ever seen Atheists thank people of faith for inventing the concept of Freedom of Religion, writing it into our laws, and defending it on the battlefield so that they have the legal right to reject God altogether and live without persecution?
And now a few Atheist extremists want to take that same freedom away from people of faith.
The entire world agreed to include freedom of religion in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights. See Article 2: http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html
The citizens of the United States think this freedom is just as important as the freedoms of speech or the press. All are part of the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution: http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/…
Even the Catholic Church seeks and supports the freedom of religion for all human beings. In the Vatican II document, Declaration on Religious Freedom, Dignitatis Humanae (Human Dignity), the Church states:
The human person has a right to religious freedom. This freedom means that all men are to be immune from coercion on the part of individuals or of social groups and of any human power, in such wise that no one is to be forced to act in a manner contrary to his own beliefs, whether privately or publicly, whether alone or in association with others, within due limits.
For the entire document, see: http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_counc…
    With love in Christ.

  12. *Destiny's Prince* says:

You are fully deceived in your logic.. You need to quit listening to the demon inside your head. Now focus..Here is truth.. Learn it and be wise.. When the Anti-Christ comes to world power, he will be the One World Dictator and Leader of the United Nations. He will bring about a New World Order of both Government and Religion worldwide.. There will be a One World Government, a One World military and police force, a One World banking and financial system, and a One World RELIGION consisting of all man-made religions including that of Islam. He will cause You and those who have rejected Jesus Christ to receive a “Mark” (a micro-chip Implant) in their right hand in order to buy or sell anything. People will be monitored by satellite, and those receiving it shall lose their very soul and those rejecting it shall be put to death (Revelation 13-16). So you might as well cast down such thoughts about Atheism becoming dominate in America. It will not according the very Word of Almighty God.. http://youtu.be/gXEEgr5bRko

  13. Alan Turing says:

    I’ve seen similar statistics.
Atheism is the fastest growing spiritual group in the USA.
I expect that as it grows it will eventually level off. But the real problem is that religions mainly appeal to people who want to or need to believe in something. What religion they have is mainly determined by what religion their parents had. It would create too big of a conflict to switch religions. Young kids who are atheists are usually better off not telling their parents that they are atheists if their parents are deeply religious as this is interpreted at a very personal level by parents.

  14. Legal Alien says:

Mitt Romney is the last hurrah for the Mormons. Jerry Falwell is dead. Joel Osteen is no more a Christian than my spaniel. All the hyperventilating bouffant wearing southern hicks on Christian TV are just flim flam parasites bleeding the white trailer trash and old folks dry, just like the screaming and sweating black men on at three in the morning are just fleecing the suckers to pay for their Cadillac. Theism is becoming the last refuge of bigots, racists and the economic scum at the bottom of the social pond who think prayer and church going will make up for their lack of education and intellect and Jesus will pay their mortgage. Most churches today are nothing but row after row of weak-minded women trying to find a husband, in most cases someone else’s husband. They are a dying breed.

  15. John quill Quill says:

This kingdom will stand for ever. You have heard brother Kimball testify that this kingdom will stand for ever. It will begin to roll to and mash the toes of the great image, and then the feet, the legs, and the body; and by-and-by it will fill the whole earth, and no power of earth or hell can hinder it. The Lord Almighty will reign until he puts all enemies under his feet. That is the promise – that is the decree of the Father, that Jesus shall begin to reign on this earth in the latter days; and his kingdom will increase upon the right and upon the left, until, by-and-by, it becomes a great kingdom and fills the whole earth, when he will begin to reign King of nations, as he now reigns King of Saints. It is and has been a warfare with Satan, and the war will continue until Jesus puts all enemies under his feet, disposing of death and him who has the power of it, who is the Devil. I hope and pray to be always ready to do anything the Lord wishes to be done. We are the men who will strive to live by every word that proceeds from his mouth.
