Public Or Private??opinions?

So, I have a 5 year old, so have been thinking about his education. My husband and I are trying to decide between private school or state (public) school.
I have two brothers ,and my husband has three sisters, and all of our nieces and nephews are school-age. While we love them all the same and think they are all great kids, there is no question that the ones that attend private school are more well-rounded ( proficient in French, Latin, an instrument, and several sports) and seem more mature. I don’t think that they are any smarter or have better parents than the other kids, so the schooling must be what sets them apart. The only thing stopping us is the cost (astronomical!). Another problem is that ALL the good private schools we have found are religiously affiliated, and as my husband and I are atheists and do not promote belief in god, I don’t know if this would be confusing for him. If it is hardly mentioned, that’s fine, I just do not know how heavy-handed they are at those places. Opinions?

My husband went to a private catholic school literally ran by priests and nuns. He went from K to 6th grade. Like you said his education was over all better. However they prayed several times a day and discussed jesus and god on a regular basis. Also they celebrated all religious holidays with plays and PTA and church sponsored events. This was back in the 80’s but they still hit with rulers and spanked the kids. I don’t know if they would still do that now. His primary education was very good. Have you considered a charter school? Our kids are in public school’s now but were making the change over next year. I have heard nothing but good things about the local ones and have been happy with the tours ive taken. Unfortunately were not in a financial situation to afford private school for our 3 kids. Any money we can save we put toward paying for college.

Hello, you know it is a good question. I personally don’t have children. But while I don’t have them I am also thinking about things like that. Because we all want the best for our children. I went to public school, but you know, I wish I went to private. Education lever of course is better than in public schools. Also your child will make good friends in future, because they all gonna be from normal family’s. And public school is always about how popular you are, how much you party around and so on.. From another hand it is good that private school will be religious. So that your kid wont be doing drugs and drinking, I hope (remember yourself at schools age). You should probably talk with moms who had got their child to private school that you thinking about and private. Good luck. Best regards, hope you will find a good school.
