Building A Sustainable Community Ideas?

For science, we have to create an ecovillage.. We decided to build our ecovillage in Calgary, Alberta because it’s the cleanest city in Canada… We need some ideas for
1) sustainable buildings: like how can we build houses/buildings without harming our environment… i already got some few ideas on how to build a sustainable building by reconstructing abandoned lots or farms, using recycled materials to build houses/buildings like recycled wood and stuff..
2) food: how we can have a sustainable diet by not damaging ecosystems.. how food will be grown, distributed, and consumed… what types of agricultural techniques need to be adopted to ensure a sustainable food supply?
3) green energy: what technologies can be used to minimize energy use and how can we communicate and access to the ecovillage by using green energy… i already have some few ideas which are solar panel-generated energy, please help me think of other ideas
4) water management: how the ecovillage will access and distribute water. how will drinkable and non drinkable water be separated? ideas: they can be separated into 2 water systems, one fore drinkable and nondrinkable.. water would be purified by the water compound and tested by the federal state government
5) waste management: how waste will be removed from the ecovillage.. what forms of eliminating would be the best and most effective? how will the 3 Rs be enforced? (reuse reduce recycle)
ideas: diverts organic waste for treatment in a biogas plant, which is then transformed into fuel for city buses. Also, methane gas from the landfill is collected and converted to electricity.
6) restoration: how can we restore an ecosystem destroyed naturally or by humans? how can elements of the eco village be used to recreate niches.. can any keystone species be supported?
thank you guys for having the time to read this.. you already read it so might as well answer some of it so it wont be a total waste of your time 🙂 links/URLs would be greatly appreciated.. this is due by tomorrow so please help 🙁

Question About The Divine 9 Sororities And Fraternities?

To start off I am not affiliated with any BGLO.
All of the divine 9 sororities and fraternities do not support hazing. I’ve been to all of their websites and it’s clearly written that it is illegal and if members or prospective members were caught doing so the chapter (in most cases) will be suspended.
With this being said, I would like to know why so many of them especially the fraternities still haze and “give wood”?
I know some greek people will say “we don’t haze, we teach deference”…. by paddling?
So why don’t they do what their organization wants them to do? How is beating someone for no reason going to make that person love and respect you as their brother/sister?
I’m all for legit lessons, actions that have meaning behind them, but not pointless beatings. Almost like getting initiated into a gang.
Also, I’ve noticed that Alpha Kappa Alpha seems to be really enforcing the non-hazing policy, however now other orgs call them “skaters, and paper” because of this. It’s almost appalling.
In my opinion, none of the founders would want that. They want dedicated people that are successful and give back to the community.

What Would Be A Good Conclusion For This Speech?

Idioms Speech
INTRODUCTION TO IDIOMS
It was an indoor recess at school one day. When it was pouring rain outside, I was hanging out with my good friends, inside, and safe and sound from the torrential downpour. As my friends and I were looking out the window, one of them made a comment that caught my attention.
“It’s raining cats and dogs outside!” they exclaimed, and suddenly, it hit me. What in the world does that saying ACTUALLY mean? Where did it come from? Because I see no cats or dogs falling from the sky.
Later on that night, I found out that there are more of those weird sayings, and they are called idioms. Idioms have meanings that can’t be figured out by looking up the definitions in the dictionary. They have meanings that can only be understood by people who speak that language. So, ladies and gentlemen, I am going to describe some of the most common idioms used in the English language, and it will be as easy as pie.
“IT’S RAINING CATS AND DOGS” IDIOM
To start this off, I am going to continue explaining the “IT’S RAINING CATS AND DOGS!” idiom. This saying doesn’t literally mean, it’s raining cats and dogs, but rather, “Oh my gosh, it sure is pouring rain outside!”
And what might surprise you, is the meaning or origin behind this saying. Although there isn’t an absolute answer to where this saying came from, there is a likely myth on how this idiom started.
The myth states that dogs and wolves were descendants of Odin, the god of storms, and some sailors thought that dogs caused the rain. And, it is said that witches (who took the form of cats) made the wind in the storm. So, there you have it! Dog + cat = a big storm (according to legend). See?! I told you understanding idioms would be as easy as pie.
“EASY AS PIE” IDIOM
And sometimes, when people describe something that is really simple, I do say, “Wow, easy as pie”! But, when you think about it, making pie, isn’t all that easy. It turns out that this idiom means “easy as eating pie”, but as humans got lazier, we made sayings shorter so we could get to the point faster.
I guess I let the cat out of the bag, because the true meanings behind these sayings are no longer a secret!
“CAT OUT OF THE BAG” IDIOM
Speaking of the “let the cat out of the bag” idiom, you probably know it is used when you reveal a secret. But, did you know that the origin behind this saying is from Medieval Times? This idiom all started in the markets of Medieval Times. The markets sold many things including meat, (like pigs) and they were kept alive so the buyer could bring it home relatively “neatly”.
Once the buyer picked out a suitable animal, it would be bagged by the seller, and carried home by the buyer. But sometimes, mischievous sellers would replace the animal with a cat (because cats were everywhere!) and place it into the bag, instead of the animal the customer picked out.
But, this devious plan relied on the buyer not letting the cat out of the bag too early. If the customer opened the bag in the market, and saw a cat, they could demand punishments for the seller, since the secret would be out. And, this plan also relied on the fact that it had to be a quiet cat. Because, most people can tell the difference between an “oink” and a “meow”. I’m sure I’m smart enough that no one will give me a cat instead of a pig… knock on wood.
“KNOCK ON WOOD” IDIOM
It’s said that knocking on wood will prevent any bad luck. But how does knocking on wood relate to luck?
According to myth, trees and lumber have good spirits. If you knock on a tree, it is considered good luck because you are letting the great spirits within know you are there. So next time you are bragging about how well your team is doing in your season so far, make sure to knock on wood (you wouldn’t want to jinx yourself!)
CONCLUSION ON IDIOMS

How Do I Remove Window Coverings That Don’t Show Any Exposed Hardware.?

I have wood slat horizontal window blinds in my living room, and would like to remove them to paint, but I can’t figure out how to do that. The box at the top (where the blinds hang from) fits inside the window niche. I don’t see any screws or anything like that to remove the entire set of blinds. Please help. Thanks.

Please Help Decorate My Bedroom?

I am moving into a college affiliated apartment, cant paint the walls so I have to deal with white walls which I feel makes decorating harder.
There is a dresser, nightstand, bed, (all three are light brown wood) and a small black couch. Which obviously means I need to incorporate black into my room which I have no problem with!
I am looking to avoid the typical tacky dorm room ‘bright’ colors (orange and pick mainly) unless they are used as accents
Please include what color you think my curtains should be! Thank you for your help
