The warmth that is created by the unique fur is absorbed by the dark skin and stored in the body fat. Many layers help you stay warmer. Polar Bears are the youngest of the bear species, and are the largest of the land based carnivores. They are the only bear species that are true carnivores by the way. And yes global warming is having a major impact on Polar Bears and their number one prey item the ringed seal.
