Could mixed-race marriage be explained entirely in terms of Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection? In other words, could it be explained in terms of the evolutionary strategy of our early human ancestors, who would have been hunter gatherers? Would genetic flow have any adaptive function, which might be beneficial to early human ancestors?
Those who are able to adapt to their environment have a better chance of surviving to pass their genes onto the next generation. The descendants of non-White people who would consistently marry Whites in N. America will also be White, which means that they would have improved access to resources. Hence, their descendants will have improved levels of (inclusive) fitness, and will be much better placed to pass their genes onto future generations.
N. America is dominated by White culture, which means that non-White people who are able to adapt to a different environment will have improved levels of fitness, are more likely to survive, and pass their genes onto the next generation. Non-White people who fail to adapt by intermarriage with Whites are less likely to survive and pass their genes onto future generations; however, if their progeny and future generations survive they will still be at a disadvantage compared to Whites who have priority of access to economic resources.
Basically, there are two distinct adaptive strategies for non-White people in N. America:-
(i) To stay within their own race, which is an ecological niche in the wider context of Canada and the United States.
OR (ii) Survival by assimilation with the dominant race in N. America.
