Does A Dose Of Feline Drontal Need To Be Consumed All At Once?

I’m fostering an adult cat and today I discovered that she’s got tapeworms. The adoption center I’m affiliated with gave me a tablet of Drontal. After unsuccessfully convincing the cat to eat the pill, I crushed it and mixed it with about 1/4 can of her canned food. She ate a small portion of the food, but unfortunately, she could still taste the pill and refused to eat any more of it. Will the meds still be effective if she consumes the food over the course of the night or should I go and ask for another pill and try again?

If she ate all the food tonight, it would probably work fine. As you’ve seen, cats normally don’t eat pills, and most of the time they won’t eat them mixed into food, either. Here’s a video of how to give a cat a pill:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFu1VunRh…
Good luck with your foster cat!

Drontal dosage is based on a cats weight. If she didn’t eat much it’s not going to be effective. I would get another pill and have someone at the center show you how to give it to her correctly.
