The Superman reboot continues as a super-hit internationally. Here and overseas, Warner Bros’ and Legendary Pictures’ holdover 3D Man Of Steel (4,207 theaters in the widest release) went into this weekend as still the big #1 leader in the worldwide marketplace. And then Superman had to battle the zombies from World War Z through today. MOS broadened out to 52 markets outside of the U.S. and Canada and now has amassed an international cume of $188.3M. With $210M from its domestic gross in just 11 days, this third Superman franchise now has a huge worldwide total of $398.3M. That includes nearly $35M on exactly 600 worldwide IMAX screens, including the $3.2M opening weekend in China where IMAX screens represent 12.5% of the country’s movie gross. The pic has played very strong throughout Asia (see Korean poster) and, in China alone, grosses were an outstanding $25.5M from roughly 5,631 screens, taking a lion’s share of the market. Opening day took almost 80% marketshare for Warner Bros’ 2nd highest opening day behind only the Harry Potter finale.
This weekend, pic overall did $89M foreign with nearly 12M admissions from over 18,800 screens as the #1 film internationally. “Considering the massive openings last weekend and the hot weather impacting the business in many European markets, the film sustained a reasonable holdover drop of 59%,” Warner Bros said today. Man Of Steel is currently #3 in North America after doing $12.7M Friday (-71% from a week ago) and +29% for $16.2M Saturday and another huge tally around $41.2M (-65% from a week ago). ”We’re in great shape moving into the 4th of July holiday playtime with such an iconic character at the helm,” said Warner Bros Domestic Distribution President Dan Fellman. “Hoping we have a similar result to the strong day we had on Father’s Day.” The Christopher Nolan-Zack Snyder-David S. Goyer-Henry Cavill pic had 27 more markets opening this weekend, including the major countries France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia and China.

How Is The Movie Industry Failing Today?

1. We cannot logically justify any ticket price whatsoever for a non-event film. There are too many better options at too low a price. Simply getting out of the house or watching something somewhere because that is the only place it is currently available does not justify a ticket price enough. We still think of movies as things people will buy. We have to change our thinking about movies to something that enhances other experiences, and it is that which has monetary value. Film’s power as a community organizing tool extends far beyond its power to sell popcorn (and the whole exhibition industry is based on that old popcorn idea).
2. The Industry has never made any attempt to build a sustainable investor class. Every other industry has such a go-to funding sector, developed around a focus on the investors’ concerns and standardized structures. In the film biz, each deal is different and generally stands alone, as opposed to leading to something more. The history of Hollywood is partially defined by the belief that another sucker is born every minute. Who really benefits by the limited options for funding currently available other than those founders and those who fee those deals? We could build something that works far more efficiently and offers far more opportunity.
3. The film business remains the virtually exclusive domain of the privileged. Although great strides have been made to diversify the industry, the numbers don’t lie. The film industry is ruled by white men from middle class or better socioeconomic backgrounds. It is an expensive art form and a competitive field — but it doesn’t need to be a closed door one. Let’s face it: people hire folks who remind them of themselves. These days everyone needs to intern and the proposition of working for free is too expensive for most. Living in NYC or LA is not affordable for most people starting out. We get more of the same and little progress without greater diversity. And although I essentially mentioned this last year, the continued poor economy limits diversity even more now.
There is no structure or mechanism to increase liquidity of film investments, either through clear exit strategies, or secondary capital markets. The dirty secret of film investment is that it is a long renouncement cycle with little planning for an exit strategy. Without a way to get out, fewer people choose to get in. Who really wants to lock up an investment for four years? Not investors, only patrons…
4. Independent Filmmakers (and their Industry advisers) build business plans based on models and notions selected from before September 15, 2008 when Lehman Brothers collapsed and everything changed. It is not the same business as it was then and we shouldn’t treat it that way. Expectations have changed considerably, probably completely. Buyers and audiences’ behaviors are different (those that still remain that is). Products are valued at different levels. We live in a new world. Our strategies must change with it.
5. The film business remains a single product industry. The product may be available on many different platforms, but it is still the same thing. For such a capital-intensive enterprise to sell only one thing is a squandering of time and money. Films can be a platform to launch many different products and enterprises, some of which can also enhance the experience and build the community.
We have done very little thinking or discussing about how to make events out of our movies. The list seems to have stopped at 3D. There’s only been one “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and the first one is very very old. Music flourishes because the live component is generally quite different from the recorded one, and the film biz could benefit from a greater differentiation of what utilizes different platforms.

Help! What Movie Is This!?

Okay guys, we need your help!! My husband and I have been trying to think of this for HOURS!!! Anyone know what movie this is?
The movie is actually a collection of a bunch of short horror films. :One of them is about a chef who was trying to impress a big time critic. A drop of his blood accidentally fell into the critics meal and the critic ended up LOVING it. The restaurant became famous for this amazing recipe with the secret ingredient, so much so that the chef started pumping his own blood nightly so he could include the secret ingredient in all his meals. His sous chef then found out about his secret ingredient and took over the restaurant, keeping the chef alive in the back room in order to use his blood.: Another of the short films was about some man trying to sell human meat and get into the American food market. They referred to the human meat as “grade A” but didn’t ever tell that it was human :Another was about a man who went to help clean up and island village. There was a dead girl that he was trying to save and an old village man came up to him saying that he had a miracle plant to bring people back to life and that he would give the plant to him if he would continue to give money to the island. When the man discontinued giving money to the island the old man killed him and the young girl he originally saved. :Another was about three sisters that attacked and ate a bunch of kids on a school bus :Another was a girl who was having visions of her former life and went to her old town.

What Is The Name Of This Song (affiliated With The Movie ‘end Of Watch’)?

I had originally asked this question within the song category, but no one responded, so I thought it might have a shot here. This song was made for the ‘End Of Watch’ website.
Head to this website here: http://www.endofwatchthefilm.com/
And after the intro is done playing with the commentator (takes about 30 – 40 seconds to pass), there is an instrumental song that plays. Was this song made custom for the website, because I’ve been searching for days now and haven’t been able to find it (the name). Thanks.

How To Do This Without Making It Boring?

Hi,
So I’m writing a book at the moment that focuses mostly on the main characters growth and change, when a sudden plague takes over the city she lives in. Like a zombie movie but without zombies lol, so that kind of setting. I wanted to show her life before the sickness takes the city and how each stage of the sickness, then its spreading and the changes in people as they begin to panic and horde food and so on and how it affacts her and how she has to change to keep the people she loves safe.
So the first few chapters would be before the sickness even hits, how can I set up the novel so people get a hint of whats to come and open in an interesting way so people don’t get bored, because it would basically be her doing things in her everyday life, nothing special.
Any tips or ideas for me.
