What Do You Think About My Rough Idea For A Dystopian/ Sci-fi Story?

I’ll lead you through the plot points
1) A large percentage of the global population is killed by a virus. the world is now ruled by a handful of powerful companies/corporations
2) All strands of the virus were thought to be destroyed/extinct, Corporation A (name pending) keeps a secret supply of the strand so their scientists can develop a biological weapon to use against their enemies
3) Head scientist creates a new strand of virus, with the cure developed from his son’s DNA, blood, genetics (will decide later)
4) Their enemies, corporation B, kidnaps/kills/makes a deal with (haven’t decided yet) the scientist and steal the virus
5) Corporation A decide they must protect the boy at all costs because his body holds the only cure if this new virus is used against them. They decide to watch over the boy from a distance. However, Corporation B has realized the boy is the cure and send an agent to kidnap him.
The two main plots will basically be:
1) The boy researching his father’s whereabouts while living a “normal” life with school
2) Corporation A protecting the boy from Corporation B’s agent

  1. Crow says:

If most of the population is dead, whence does the corporation derive its power and wealth? People are going to be too busy subsistence farming to work at factories and office buildings (as the supply and manufacture mechanisms will fail in depopulation scenarios and simply having food is going to be the primary concern of the survivors). And so how do these corporations satisfy their stockholders? If there are no stock markets, there are no stock holders. In short, they are no longer corporations. They are something else, private militaries, perhaps. How do they feed their soldiers, then? How do they get their ammunition? Who refines oil for them for their tanks and humvees? Who works in these pharm labs? How did they get the labs? If they were a pharmaceutical corporation in the first place, they wouldn’t have a privatized army. If they were a private army contractor, they wouldn’t have biochemists and the extremely complex equipment needed to create viruses or inoculations against it (more plausible than a cure). And if the world is depopulated, why are there still schools? Where do they get the teachers, the books, the fuel to heat classrooms? This is an awful lot of infrastructure you have for a post-plague world.
So logically, I’m already suspicious. But write whatever you like. The chances of anyone with an idea finishing a novel are perhaps 1 in 1000. The chance of getting a novel legitimately published are about as bad. (self publishing improved that to 1 in 1) And honestly, I’ve seen less logical ideas in published thrillers. So if the idea sings to you, write it.

Really cool idea, could use more originality, but cool. What do you think of my idea? http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aop0334eQrBF9A_dGQYJTiTHB3RG;_ylv=3?qid=20130420211104AAnUegG
