Instead of studying Mormonism from an insider’s perspective, graduate students can examine Mormon theology from a secular or interfaith perspective. Claremont Graduate University in California offers a master’s degree program in Mormon Studies with an emphasis on comparative theology. Although the school is not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, it works closely with the Church to foster the academic tradition of the study of the religion by both Mormon and non-Mormon students. Other graduate schools such as Yale Divinity School also offer courses in Mormon theology as part of their master’s and PhD programs.

Yes they can. Since they are handed out by schools associated with other churches, it would be unlikely that they would accpet a members course work. Since members are not called to paying positions, the degree would not have a carrer impact.
College age students are encouraged to attend institute. There they receive college level courses based on the scriptures.
