Why Is Gay Marriage Legal In Some States?

So, I am honestly just wondering… If the majority of Americans are affiliated with some Church (Christians), Mosque (Muslims) or a Synagogue (Jewish), whom amount to at least 80 percent of Americans altogether, then why is Gay marriage allowed? The reason I ask is because these religions are all against Gay marriage, so I believe it’s a sort of paradox that Gay marriage is allowed if the majority of people follow religions that are strictly against Gay marriage. I feel there is a very small minority that adhere to their religious code? Am I right? Are the statistics wrong?
Also let me clarify, I don’t want anyone badgering religion because this question is a completely neutral why is blah blah blah… And you guys should answer because blah blah blah… Hope you get the point and thanks for answering!

I doubt very much if 80% of Americans are affiliated with a church. That being said, gay marriage is a legal matter, not a religious one. I, for one, support it. Why shouldn’t people who love each other be together? It matters not to me what sex they happen to be.

well how about those religious types just don’t marry the same gender and every1 will be happy?
those 20% have right to free speech and whatever
although i believe less than 80% actually go to church/mosque

The fastest growing population in the U.S. are those unaffiliated with any church, so it’s not surprising our laws are becoming more secular, because they are made by public officials that we elect.

The legality of Marriage is a State issue..
Some feel its the right of the people and some dont.. While religion plays a key role , Religion and Politics dont go hand in hand.. Religion is a tool that a lot of politicians use to say that dont want it..

Because we should evolve, not devolve. Religion isn’t the reason for gay marriage being illegal, homophobics (also known as asshóles, seeming it’s not a phobia) use religion as a shield for their petty and dumbfúcked ignorance. Simple. One day we’ll evolve to the point where religion will disintegrate, shame I’ll be dead by then.

Wow, that’s a seriously loaded question… In fact, I think this question needs a forum rather than a Q&A.
    The short answer is this:
Just because you are religious doesn’t mean that you have to be against gay marriage.
Technically, homosexuality isn’t addressed in any bible. Christians will say that “Man was not meant for man” implies that gays shouldn’t be together, but that could also mean that we’re not supposed to eat each other or have human slaves. It all depends on the context.
You should also look into the numbers for how many of those of each religion are gay. If you are gay, that doesn’t mean that you’re also an Atheist or a Democrat (there are gay Republicans, too). You can follow the bible to the letter & still be gay.
You also have to figure that there are VERY few people who follow their bibles to the letter. Look at how many Christians play football & eat pig? According to Leviticus, that’s not allowed.

The good news is that gays can’t procreate without breaching their gayness. I personally believe many gays are just playing at it for whatever reason, rebellion. I.guess, much like hippies in my day did drugs and became promiscuous.
The selfishness of our youth is daunting, and embracing any religion is impossible until you strive to become selfless, which these people will never understand. It will take a monumental catastrophe to turn them back to a higher power.
The amazing fact is that the percentage of great people who don’t aspire to a higher power is quite small. The libs of today are mostly ignorant, arrogant, selfish and are followers, not leaders.
