Would You Agree With Elpresador On This Topic: System Quarterbacks?

Yes, definitely, 100%. However, that shouldn’t necessarily take away anything from Montana. His abilities were perfect to fit into that system. Many other successful QBs couldn’t do as well in that system.
Steve Young was another one. He bounced around the CFL and the NFL before he proved the original West Coast Offense was his niche.
The other thing with both of them was Eddie DeBartolo was able to manipulate the system by deferring salaries to keep the 49ers top players from being free agents. Montana and Young ALWAYS had a top supporting cast.
Because of the manipulation, the NFL initiated new rules about player compensation so no team can now retain their top players like the 49ers used to do.

I would disagree on the Young/Montana thing. But in truth, every QB is a product of the system they play in.
Guys like Chad Pennington, Kyle Orton, Cam Newton, Michael Vick, and Mark Sanchez are people I associate with being “system” QB’s. They either are not smart enough to understand complex playbooks or don’t have the arm strength to complete all the throws in the passing tree.
People like to use Cassel as a prime example, but I think that would be a poor one, since he did go to the Pro Bowl with another team. And even though he went 11-5 with the Patriots, it was the EXACT same team that went 18-1 the previous season. Cassel was the product of being on an elite team, not the product of being a “system” QB. Otherwise he wouldn’t have led the league in being sacked behind what is supposed to be the best line in football and also took the #1 ranked offense in the redzone to the #32 ranked offense in the redzone. The Colts last year were not a product of being 2-14 without Manning, but a product of being without certain players during the course of the season like Manning, Clark, Brown, Addai, Brackett, etc. Not having Manning obviously hurt, but not having other key players hurt as well, along with extremely poor coaching. It was a team that struggled to be 10-7 the previous year, and that many had thought with a healthy Manning, probably wouldn’t have a winning record.

Yes. There are quarterbacks that are a product of a system and who is the system. Some players are only successful because of the system they play in. Matt Cassell for Example. Never started A NFL game since high school he led the Patriots to a 11-5 record and made the ProBowl. He goes to KC and he’s absolutely A S S. Then we have players like Drew Brees and Peyton Manning who make and carry their teams.Without Peyton the Colts who always won 10 or more games each year went to 2-14 Peyton goes to Denver and is getting it done. Brees losses his head coach and is carrying his team.
I know I was just giving an example

@ChaliseBroncosFan- Come on, it was 1 season after the historic offensive 07 Patriots. If Cassell sucked, then everybody on the Patriots would deserve to get fired. Also, Peyton Manning went 3-13 on the Colts and Drew Brees started out the season 0-4. Every QB is in some sort of a system. If they weren’t, how would they play?
